Replying to myself, for anybody else looking. I managed to sort of fix it.
./arducam_camera_selector.sh --add imx519
which disabled arducam dtoverlay and added the imx519 overlay
[pi4]
# Run as fast as firmware / board allows
arm_boost=1
dtoverlay=imx519
dtoverlay=imx519,cam0
[all]
# enable raspicam
start_x=1
gpu_mem=128
#dtoverlay=arducam
The instruction pertaining to the imx519 only mention that those overlays have to be loaded for the cm4, but not the pi4.
it works but I am still getting dmesg errors:
[ 9.377465] imx519 0-001a: failed to read chip id 519, with error -5
[ 9.378015] imx519: probe of 0-001a failed with error -5
