Using Pi Camera V3 wide as Lightburn camera mounted to laser cutter?

With Lightburn RC 2.1.0 adding support for HTTP cameras, is anybody using the “Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 Wide” as a layout camera for a CO2 (IR) laser?

Specifically we are wondering if it makes sense to get an “AutoFocus” model camera and lock the focus in software rather than buying a fixed focus version? The distance from the camera (directly above the bed and gantry) to the surface to be engraved is about 3’, but will change slightly (by at most an inch or two) when we swap lenses.

The purpose of the camera within lightburn is to help lay out the cuts while preparing the project, while a job is running the camera will be orthogonal to the laser beam, so not directly exposed to the 100W IR laser, only reflections – can I safely assume the “wide” lens has an integrated IR filter which should provide some protection against damaging the sensor via reflected IR?
