Pi 5 Alternatives for Arducam 64mp?

I was wondering if you have a list of other single board computers that can run the 64mp cameras (other than pi5 and pi4)

Hi there,
A 64MP camera can also work on CM 4 and CM 5.

cool! but yeah do you know if there’s other computers it can work on like rockpi, bananapi, beagleboard, risc-v boards, anything like that?

Hi @hikinghack
Unfortunately. No camera drivers available on such platforms for now…

Follow up question @Dion , do you know if you can use a owlsight camera on a rpi 5 1gb or 2gb board?

I tried on a 2gb board a year ago and it didn’t work, but maybe i was doing something wrong.

Has anyone been able to take 64mp pics on a 1gb or 2gb board?

Hi @hikinghack
I’ve already confirmed that the OwlSight camera can work on a Raspberry Pi 5 2gb board.

Your problem might have happened because the camera module was set up with the wrong CSI port.

Oh cool! Which port does it need to be? Do you have the details of this setup somewhere?

Hi @hikinghack
I’ve already distinguished the CAM 1 and the CAM 0.

Regarding the software configuration, you can refer to the following guidance:
https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Native-camera/16MP-IMX519/#step-1-download-the-installation-script

Plz let me know if that works for you.

For new cheaper boards coming out like ESP32-P4-Pi-VIEWE - A Raspberry Pi-inspired ESP32-P4 + ESP32-C6 board with Ethernet, USB, 40-pin GPIO header, and more - CNX Software

you mentioned that the camera couldn’t work with them because there’s no camera drivers for it right? Theoretically, if someone spent some time hacking could they create the drivers, or do the pi’s have some sort of special stuff that the camera would only ever be able to work with them?

I actually just got the camera working on.the 2GB by disabling the gui but I was still using the cam0 port. Is that bad? It seems to.be working ok

Also.do you think the camera will work on the 1GB?

Good to go. Both CAM0 and CAM1 can work with this camera module as long as the software configuration matches the physical connection. Said if you connect the camera to the CAM 0 port on your Raspberry Pi 5, you will need to add the ,cam0 to the dtoverlay=…. Without ,cam0, your Pi cannot detect the camera at all.

Though I haven’t tested or used a 1GB Pi 5, I think this 64MP should be able to work on it running a headless os.
