OV9281 is not starting on Jetson Orin Nano (Jetvariety driver)

Hello ArduCam Support Team,

  1. I am using a UC-788 RevB camera board with the OV9281 sensor on Jetson Orin Nano (JetPack 6.2 / L4T 36.4.3) with the Jetvariety driver.

  2. I followed the instruction and installed driver arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel-t234-nx-5.15.148-tegra-36.4.3-20250124133829_arm64.deb using install_full.sh
I have installed the latest arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel package and see the arducam_csi2 module loaded. However, there is no ov9281.dtbo overlay in /boot/arducam/dts/.

  3. As a result, the camera is not powered up and not visible on I²C (i2cdetect shows no device), and dmesg logs display:

jetson@jetson:~$ sudo dmesg | grep arducam
[ 10.956747] arducam-csi2: arducam_read: Reading register 0x103 failed
[ 10.956756] arducam-csi2 9-000c: probe failed
[ 10.956780] arducam-csi2 9-000c: Failed to setup board.
[ 11.000211] arducam-csi2: arducam_read: Reading register 0x103 failed
[ 11.000222] arducam-csi2 10-000c: probe failed
[ 11.000245] arducam-csi2 10-000c: Failed to setup board.
  1. Here is the current DTO exported to text for more info.
  2. What could you recommend to do? Or maybe you could possibly provide the correct DTS/DTBO overlay for UC-788 RevB (OV9281) on Jetson Orin Nano?
Or any additional configuration steps required for Jetvariety with UC-788 RevB ?

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,
Ben

Hi,
Thank you for reaching out.
Could you please post pictures of the hardware connection? Both camera’s side and Jetson’s side.

Hi Dion,

I appreciate for a fast response!

Sure, please check

the photo attached.

Thank you,
Ben

Hi Ben,
Thank you for getting back with the picture.
Actually, I want the picture for the front part of the camera module. That will help me confirm whether this camera is populated with a Jetvariety chip or not.
Could you please post a picture again?

Sure, here are the photo.

Thank you for a fast response!

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben,
Thank you for your patience and pictures. It was really helpful to diagnose the problem.

In fact, this camera module is specially designed for the Raspberry Pi, and it doesn’t work on the Jetson Platform.

If you wanna get an OV9281 camera up and running on your current Jetson board, we highly recommend the following product with a Jetvariety chip:

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Dear Dion,
