Hello.
I’m unable to get the IMX519 autofocus or manual focus control working on both Raspbian 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-v8 (Bookworm), and Raspbian 6.1.21-v8+ (Bullseye) on a Raspberry PI 4b 8gb. I followed the standard install procedure (16MP IMX519 - Arducam Wiki) on a fresh install of Raspbian.
I’ve tried two different IMX519 units, and both exhibit this problem. I’ve also tried with a Hawkeye, and the focus works correctly there.
Library versions (on 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-v8 Bookworm):
dpkg -l | grep libcamera
ii libcamera-dev:arm64 0.3.0+rpt20240618-1 arm64 complex camera support library (development files)

Hi,
We should have gotten in touch with each other via email. Did my colleague contact you?
Yes, it appears they believe both of these cameras are broken? The Rev C camera did have working focus controls when I bought it years ago on a much easier version of Bullseye.
Hi,
The focus motors are defective.
Got it. We updated the camera board to 22 22-pin CSI connector instead of 15-pin.
This does not appear to be the case, as I received the replacements and also ordered one more, and I now have five IMX519s all exhibiting the same issue! My guess is drivers, as the latest version available via your install script is for 6.1.19-v8+, and the imx519 driver included in the raspbian distribution also shows the same issue.
Hi,
How many imx519 cameras did you buy in total? Moreover, which cable did you use? The original cable in the package?
I have the same issue with both my imx519.
I am on 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-v8 Bookworm and the installer script does not work.
Camera is detected but autofocus does not fucntion and camera fails to take image or video.
Very frustrating is there a fix?
I have the same issue with my imx519.
With a pi0 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-v8 Bookworm the camera does not focus and will not work correctly.
Is there any update to the script to get it working.
I bought 3 and you guys sent me 2 replacements, for a total of 5 at the moment. All show the same error.
I have tried many cables including all the cables that came with the cameras, and more from multiple other vendors. I’m an engineer and this is for a large project, I have a lot of hardware including many different models of the Raspberry Pi, and other cameras. Your Hawkeye cameras work perfectly with the exact same setup and these same Raspberry Pi’s and cables.
Hi,
Please update the libcamera and give it a shot again.
The latest version does appear to fix the focusing issues! I will follow up with any changes.
Thank you very much!
