ESP8266 Nano V2 with battery

I’m trying to get the ESP8266 Nano V2 to run on battery using solar charging. I put it into deep sleep for a couple of hours - ti wakes up, sends one frame capture over wifi, and goes back to sleep. I’m having trouble getting it to take more than a couple of shots. When charging the battery, is power still being supplied to the ESP8266? What’s the current draw when asleep vs. awake and using wifi?
