With the official dev kit comes a usb that contains a doc file detailing the steps to set SSD boot on the jetson xavier NX. I will send the file via email if email.

Yes, if you are using USB to connect SSD, then it is USB boot.
At present, only SSD with M.2 interface (connected to the bottom of Jetson Xaivier NX) supports native SSD boot.
