Arducam install_full.sh fails on Orin Nano: invalid arithmetic operator on kernel version

Hey folks, I’m trying to get an Arducam 8MP PTZ camera (IMX219 sensor) working with my NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit but running into issues with the install script.

Hardware details:

  • Camera: ARDUCAM 8 MP PTZ (IMX 219)
  • Two PCBs on the camera module are tagged “ARDUCAM UC 573” and “UC 350 revD”
  • Board: NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit
  • Kernel: 5.10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758

When I run the install script I get a bunch of errors. Has anyone else run into this with the Orin Nano? Wondering if the kernel is just too new and the script doesn’t support it yet.

That kernel version does look fairly recent. Can you run the install script again and copy/paste the full terminal output here? That’ll help narrow down exactly where it’s failing.

Sure, here’s the full output when I run ./install_full.sh:

First it downloads the links file without any issue:

imx219_links.txt downloaded (2370 bytes)

Then it immediately hits an arithmetic error on line 111:

./install_full.sh: line 111: 5.10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758: syntax error: invalid arithmetic operator (error token is ".10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758")

And another one on line 119:

./install_full.sh: line 119: 5.10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758: syntax error: invalid arithmetic operator (error token is ".10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758")

Then it gives up with:

Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to [email protected]
Kernel version: 5.10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758
Jetson type: NVIDIA Orin Nano Developer Kit

I’m guessing the install script just doesn’t have a matching deb package for this L4T/kernel combo yet. It’s a pretty fresh install.

Yeah, you’ve basically figured it out. Here’s what’s happening under the hood:

The arithmetic error: The install_full.sh script is trying to do arithmetic operations on your kernel version string — something like extracting the major/minor version numbers to decide which deb package to use. But your kernel string is 5.10.216-tegra-35.6.1-20250304015758, which contains hyphens and dots that bash can’t parse as integers. That’s what’s triggering the invalid arithmetic operator errors on lines 111 and 119.

The missing deb: Even if the arithmetic logic were fixed, the script simply doesn’t include a precompiled deb package for L4T 35.6.1 on the Orin Nano — it’s not in the imx219_links.txt manifest.

The better path forward: For your setup, I’d skip the Arducam install script entirely and use NVIDIA’s native imx219 camera driver instead. The Jetson IO tool can configure this for you:

sudo /opt/nvidia/jetson-io/jetson-io.py

Arducam has a guide on this here: Jetson-io - Arducam Wiki

The native driver should handle the IMX219 on your Orin Nano without needing any third-party deb packages.
