16MP Autofocus & Raspbian Buster --> **no camera available**

Hello everyone,
I have two new 16MP Autofocus modules, that I would like to get running for my magic mirror project as selfie cameras. Here is a description of my issue:

Where did you get the camera module(s)?
Kickstarter

Model number of the product(s).
2x modules of Arducam 16Mp Autofocus

What hardware/platform were you working on?
Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Raspbian Buster (Legacy OS version from January 28th 2022, Kernel 5.10

Instructions you have followed. (link/manual/etc.)

Problems you were having.
When I try to test my autofocus camera via “libcamera-still -t 0”, I receive:

[0:00:55.171930811] [972] INFO Camera camera_manager.cpp:293 libcamera v0.0.0
ERROR: ***no cameras available ***

The dmesg log from your hardware.
Not available.

Troubleshooting attempts you’ve made.

  • Hardware: I have tried 2 autofocus cameras, to check, if one of them is damaged. I tried different cables. I tested the original raspi camera v2.1, which worked.

  • OS: I tested the autofocus cameras with Raspbian Bullseye and they worked. Unfortunately, I cannot switch to Bullseye because of my other application that I want to keep using.

  • Re-installation: I followed the libcamera guide and did 3 re-installations.

What help do you need?
Is there a way, that I can get the 16MP autofocus cameras working under Raspbian Buster? That would be great, as this was my main intention when I bought them.

Best regards, Hendrik

Can you provide some information?

I need them to diagnose the problem.

Dear wong,

thank you for looking into it!

3. Model number

  • See above
  • As I found the camera working under bullseye, it is not about the cable connection of the camera (see above).

4. Application log

  • See the blockquote above

Thank you, wong!

Thank you very much for your information,
We will do some testing.

I think I found the problem, buster uses a different linux source tree than bullseye,
You can try to install manually:

imx519_kernel_driver.tar.gz (55.1 KB)

tar xzvf imx519_kernel_driver.tar.gz
cd Release
./install_driver.sh
