Will Arducam TOF Camera work with CSI-USB adapter on PC?

Hi everyone, I recently picked up an Arducam Time of Flight Camera for Raspberry Pi and I’m trying to use it on my PC via USB for a custom application I’m building. I don’t want to use it with a Pi — I need it connected directly to my PC.

I came across the Arducam CSI-USB UVC Camera Adapter Board and was wondering: is the ToF camera compatible with that adapter? Can I use it as a bridge to get the ToF camera working over USB on my PC? Has anyone tried this combo before?

Unfortunately that combination won’t work. The Arducam CSI-USB UVC Camera Adapter Board is designed specifically for the IMX477 sensor — it’s not a generic CSI-to-USB bridge. It won’t recognize or communicate with the Time of Flight camera at all.

The adapter firmware and hardware are tightly coupled to the IMX477, so it can’t be used as a universal adapter for other Arducam camera modules like the ToF.

Ah, that’s disappointing. Is there any other adapter or workaround that would let me use this ToF camera on a PC? I’ve already got the camera and I really need the depth sensing on my PC application. Any alternative interface boards I might have missed?

As of now, there isn’t a plug-and-play USB adapter or workaround available that supports the Arducam ToF camera on a PC. The CSI-USB UVC adapter really is sensor-specific — it only works with the IMX477 and can’t serve as a generic bridge for other modules.

For a PC-based ToF solution, your best bet would be to reach out to the Arducam sales team at [email protected]. They may be able to point you toward a customized solution or advise on upcoming hardware that fits your use case. Sorry I don’t have a more immediate fix for you on this one.
