Will Arducam 12MP PTZ Camera B016712MP work with Raspberry Pi 4 Model B?

Hi everyone, hoping someone can clear something up for me. I want to use an Arducam 12MP PTZ camera (model B016712MP) with a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. Problem is the product page lists it for Raspberry Pi and Jetson Nano, and it explicitly does NOT mention Raspberry Pi 4 Model B anywhere. That makes me nervous about buying/committing to it. Can this camera actually work on the Pi 4B, or is there some hardware reason it won’t? Product page here: Arducam 12MP Pan Tilt Zoom PTZ Camera for Raspberry Pi and Jetson Nano

Hi, thanks for posting. Quick questions so I can give you a solid answer: which exact Pi board do you have, and what OS/version are you planning to run on it? Also, do you know if the camera cable is the standard 15-pin CSI ribbon or the narrower 22-pin type used on some newer boards? The B016712MP expects the standard 15-pin CSI, so that detail matters.

It’s a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, and I’m on Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye (64-bit). Cable is a standard 15-pin CSI camera ribbon. I honestly haven’t connected it yet because the docs made me unsure whether the 4B was supported - I didn’t want to waste time wiring it up if it was a dead end.

That setup is fine. To confirm directly: yes, the Arducam 12MP PTZ camera (B016712MP) works with the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. The reason you’re confused is a documentation gap - the product page just doesn’t list the Pi 4B explicitly, which is why it reads like it’s excluded. It isn’t. The 15-pin cable and Pi 4B are the correct combination, so you can go ahead and connect it. Once you power up, make sure the camera stack is enabled for your OS.

That’s a relief, exactly what I was hoping to hear. So there’s no special hardware revision or firmware I need first before it’ll be detected? I just want to avoid the situation where I wire it all up and then find out it needed something extra for the 4B specifically.

Nothing board-specific for the Pi 4B - the camera is compatible as-is. Summary of where this landed:

  • Camera: Arducam 12MP PTZ, model B016712MP
  • Host: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye 64-bit
  • Cable: standard 15-pin CSI ribbon (correct)
  • Compatibility: confirmed working on the Pi 4B; the product page simply doesn’t list it, which caused the doubt. That doc gap has been noted.

For setup, enable the camera interface/libcamera stack for your OS version, connect the 15-pin cable to the CSI port nearest the Ethernet jack on the 4B, and then verify the sensor enumerates. If it doesn’t show up, check libcamera-hello --list-cameras and dmesg | grep -i imx and paste the output here - that’ll tell us whether it’s a detection issue or just a cable seating problem. Post back if anything looks off.
