Video glitching and color distortion with Arducam Quad Camera Kit on Jetson Xavier NX

Hi everyone. I’m having a strange issue with my Arducam 12MP*4 477P Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit. The video output is glitching constantly — colors are shifting and changing, and the image is never clear. It’s not completely dead, but it’s really unstable. Sometimes it sort of works for a moment, then the glitches come back. Has anyone else run into this?

Sorry to hear that. Could you share a bit more about your setup so we can narrow things down?

  • What platform are you running this on?
  • Which documentation or guide did you follow for the setup?
  • Any other relevant details about your hardware environment?

Sure, here’s my setup:

  • Product: Arducam 12MP*4 477P Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit
  • Platform: NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX
  • I followed the online documentation from Arducam’s site
  • Purchased directly from Arducam

One interesting data point — I actually have another camarray HAT with 4 cameras (same model) and that one works perfectly fine. So I have something to compare against.

That’s actually really helpful that you have a working identical kit. Let’s do some cross-swap isolation testing. Here’s what I’d suggest:

  • Take the cameras from the problematic kit and connect them to the known-good HAT board.
  • Take the cameras from the working kit and connect them to the problematic HAT.
  • Also swap the cables and power connections between the two kits.

This should tell us whether the problem follows the HAT board, the cameras, or the cables. Let us know what you find.

Alright, I did a pretty thorough cross-swap:

  • Switched the cameras between the two HATs
  • Swapped all the cables
  • Swapped the power connections
  • Even tried different ports

Result: the problem always stays with the same HAT board. No matter what cameras or cables I attach to it, the glitchy output follows that specific board.

I also recorded a sample video so you can see what I’m dealing with:

You can see the color distortions and the glitching pretty clearly in the clip.

Thanks for the video and the thorough testing — that’s very helpful. I’ve reviewed the footage and I can see the color shifts and glitching you’re describing. It definitely doesn’t look like a normal camera or cable issue at this point.

Before we finalize the diagnosis, can you do one more confirmation step? Take the four camera modules from the problematic kit and connect them to your known-good HAT board. If those cameras produce a clean image on the good HAT, then we’ve fully isolated the issue to the HAT board itself and can take the next steps from there.

I went ahead and did even more isolation testing over the last couple of days:

  • Tested the problematic HAT with completely different camera modules → same glitchy output
  • Tried different connection cables (brand new ones) → no change
  • Tested on a different PC / host system entirely → same problem

At this point, I’m confident the issue is isolated to the HAT board. The problem follows the board regardless of which cameras, cables, or host platform I use. My working HAT continues to work fine with any combination of the same components. I’d like to get this HAT replaced.

Thanks for the thorough debugging. Based on everything you’ve described, the diagnosis is clear: all other variables (cameras, cables, host platform) have been ruled out through systematic cross-swap testing. The root cause is a faulty UC-512 board — that’s the camarray HAT board itself.

I’ve sent you the details regarding a replacement UC-512 board through private message. Please check your inbox and we’ll get this sorted out.
