Hi everyone, I’m trying to set up the V3Link Kit on a Raspberry Pi 5 running Bookworm. The ribbon is connected to the Camera 1 port (not Camera 0). I want to get both cameras to show up and record from both simultaneously using Gstreamer. Right now I’m not getting anywhere — hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for posting. To narrow this down, can you share the full environment — board model, OS version, which port the V3Link ribbon is on, and whether you have any other setup that works with these cameras?
Sure. It’s a Raspberry Pi 5, OS is Bookworm. The V3Link ribbon is on the Camera 1 port. I have a separate RPi 5 that can view standalone CSI cameras without issues, so the cameras themselves are fine.
Got it. What did you add to /boot/firmware/config.txt? Paste the relevant line if you can.
I added dtoverlay=imx219 to /boot/firmware/config.txt. That’s the only change I made there.
Can you run sudo rpicam-hello --list-cameras and post the output?
Output is just: no cameras available. I also went through the Quick Start Guide again, but it only shows i2ctransfer commands, which didn’t help with camera detection. For reference, here’s the Gstreamer command that works on my other RPi 5 for a standalone CSI camera: gst-launch-1.0 libcamerasrc camera-name=“/base/axi/pcie@120000/rp1/i2c@80000/imx296@1a” ! videoconvert ! ximagesink
Thanks, that helps me narrow things down. What I’m seeing: V3Link kit on an RPi 5 running Bookworm, ribbon on the Camera 1 port, dtoverlay=imx219 in config.txt, and rpicam-hello --list-cameras reports no cameras available. I also noted your working standalone command from the other Pi. The root cause here is that the V3Link kit does not support running two IMX219 camera modules simultaneously — that limitation is the main blocker for your dual-camera Gstreamer setup. To dig further into the detection issue, could you send pictures of the hardware connection (both the Raspberry Pi end and the camera end), and also generate the arducam-bug-report.txt file for me to analyze?
Okay, I can get the photos. How do I generate that arducam-bug-report.txt file?
Here’s how: 1) reboot your device, 2) run wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/Dion4cen/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/Tool/arducam-camera-bug-report, 3) chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report, 4) run ./arducam-camera-bug-report. That will output arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory — send that file over. Separately, for two cameras working at the same time, the 1MP 4 Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit (IMX219) is the alternative to consider — I’ve sent you the product link in a private message.
I ran through everything you listed. The device still can’t stream from both cameras simultaneously — and honestly that wasn’t clear from the product description. I’ve attached the arducam-bug-report.txt log and the pictures of my test setup as requested.
Thanks, I’ve reviewed the log and the images. I wasn’t able to determine a new root cause beyond the two-IMX219 limitation. Unfortunately I don’t have a solution for the camera focus settings requirement at this time, and there’s no workaround I can offer for simultaneous streaming with this kit. There’s also a relevant thread on accessing the camera in this setup that might help: V3Link kit: no cameras available - #3 by Dion
I’ve been through that thread and everything else provided so far, and updated my forum post with the current findings — still no success. I also need some follow-up/traction on the forum issue. I tried making a separate forum post but got a 403 error, so could you follow up on the existing thread?
To summarize where we’ve landed: the V3Link kit doesn’t support two IMX219 cameras running simultaneously, which is the blocker for your dual-camera Gstreamer setup. The bug report and setup photos didn’t reveal a different cause, and I don’t have a workaround for the simultaneous-streaming requirement right now. The 1MP 4 Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit (IMX219) remains the alternative if you need two cameras at once. I’ll follow up on the existing forum thread for you.
