I’m running into a few issues with my Arducam 5MP OX05B1S RGB-IR global shutter USB camera shield kits (I have two of them). First, on newer Huawei laptops the Arducam GUI throws a USB error, but the exact same camera works fine on older Huawei laptops. Both machines run the same Windows OS and the same Arducam USB driver. I already tried changing the frame rate and other settings, but the USB error keeps appearing.
Second, when I shine an IR LED on a person’s face, the RGB image clearly still contains the IR component. Is that supposed to happen? I also need to decode the raw buffer from this RGB-IR camera into separate RGB and IR images using the Arducam C++ library - is there any reference example for that?
Also, the GUI has image mode options IGGB, GBIG, GIBG, BGGI, GIRG, RGGI, GRIG and I have no idea what those abbreviations mean.
On the IR showing up in the RGB image - that’s expected with the current behavior. The RGB channels still contain an IR component; the app doesn’t remove IR light influence from the RGB pixels, and no ISP processing like AWB is implemented yet. This comes down to how the RGB-IR sensor fundamentally works.
For the USB error on the newer Huawei laptop, could you generate a fresh bug info package from the GUI following the steps in the attachment and send it over? That will also let us check the image format settings behind those mode abbreviations.
Could you also clarify those image mode abbreviations (IGGB, GBIG, GIBG, BGGI, GIRG, RGGI, GRIG)? I’m not sure which one I should be using for this camera. Also, just so I understand the Python utility correctly - does the separation function only split the RGB and IR out of the RAW image, or does it also do color correction on the RGB side?
I’ve looked through the bug report. It shows you were using an outdated configuration file with incorrect image format settings - that’s likely part of the confusion with those image modes. I’ve attached the latest configuration file, please apply the settings from it and give it a try.
To answer your question: the separation function specifically splits the RGB and IR components from the RAW image. It does NOT do any color correction or shifting on the RGB image. And keep in mind the RGB channels will still contain an IR component - the current app doesn’t remove IR light influence from the RGB pixels, and no AWB or other ISP processing is implemented. That’s fundamental to how this RGB-IR sensor behaves right now.
I applied the config file you shared, but the USB error is still happening on the new Huawei laptop. What’s odd is it captures images fine for a few seconds, then a USB timeout error shows up. The camera still works perfectly on the older laptop, so I don’t think the config file itself is the problem.
Here’s a fresh bug info from the failing machine:
ArducamUSBCameraShieldUI_bug_info_2024-10-25_10_26_49_.zip
Thanks for the updated bug info. Since images are captured initially and then the USB timeout appears after a few seconds, it looks like a bandwidth/stability problem on that laptop’s USB controller rather than an image format issue.
I’ve attached a configuration file that reduces the frame rate. Please apply it and test whether the timeout still occurs.
If it does persist, try turning the camera off and then back on through the GUI interface. If that doesn’t help either, it may be related to the USB cable connection - I’d recommend testing with a shorter USB cable for better connectivity.
Please report back with the results after trying these.
