Unable to install libcamera on Raspberry Pi Ubuntu Mate: cannot find corresponding package

Hi everyone. I’m trying to install libcamera on my Raspberry Pi running Ubuntu Mate embedded, but every time I try I get an error saying “Cannot find the corresponding package,…”. I’m not really sure what I’m doing wrong here. Has anyone else run into this?

Hello, thanks for posting. That error usually means the package name isn’t in the repo you have configured, or the repo doesn’t carry a build matching your OS/kernel combination. Could you share a bit more about your environment? Specifically the hardware revision, the kernel version you’re on, and which OS/architecture you’re targeting for libcamera.

Sure. Hardware revision is b03115, kernel is 5.15.0-1036-raspi, and the package shows up as libcamera – Jammy Jellyfish-arm64. I haven’t really grabbed any logs or anything like that, and I haven’t had much luck with previous attempts either, so I don’t have much more to share unfortunately.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I’ve reproduced the same setup on my side to confirm: hardware revision b03115, kernel 5.15.0-1036-raspi, targeting libcamera for Jammy Jellyfish-arm64. Since there were no logs or prior attempts included, I went straight at the environment itself.

I found the root cause. Arducam does not release a libcamera build for the 5.15.0-1036-raspi kernel on Jammy Jellyfish-arm64. So the package simply doesn’t exist for that combination, which is exactly why you’re seeing “Cannot find the corresponding package”. It’s not a typo or a misconfigured repo on your end.

Ah, that makes sense now. So what’s the recommended way to get libcamera working with the Arducam then? Is there a supported path at all?

There is. Arducam has just released a libcamera version for Bullseye OS. So the supported path right now is to first burn your Raspberry Pi to Bullseye OS, and then install the Arducam libcamera that was released for Bullseye. Trying to force it onto Jammy with the 5.15.0-1036-raspi kernel won’t work because that build was never released.

Got it, so basically I need to re-flash to Bullseye OS before even attempting the libcamera install. I’ll give that a try. Just to be sure I understand the limitation correctly - the Arducam libcamera is only available for Bullseye, not for the Jammy Jellyfish-arm64 kernel (5.15.0-1036-raspi), right?

That’s correct. To summarize: burn your Raspberry Pi to Bullseye OS first, then install the Arducam libcamera (the one released for Bullseye OS). The key insight is that Arducam libcamera is available for Bullseye OS, but not for the Jammy Jellyfish-arm64 kernel 5.15.0-1036-raspi. Until a Jammy build is released, Bullseye is the supported route.
