Unable to install IMX477 PTZ camera driver on Raspberry Pi 5 with kernel 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-2712

Having trouble installing the driver for my ArduCAM IMX477 PTZ camera on a Raspberry Pi 5 Model B Rev 1.0. The install script runs for a bit but then says it can’t find the corresponding deb package and tells me to email support. Anyone run into this on a Pi 5?

Can you post your kernel version and the exact commands you’re running? The ‘corresponding deb package’ message usually means the script can’t match your board/kernel combination, so those details will help.

Sure. Here’s my setup:

  • Raspberry Pi 5 Model B Rev 1.0
  • Raspberry Pi OS
  • Kernel: 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-2712

I downloaded the script with:

wget https://github.com/ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera/releases/download/v0.0.3/install_full.sh

and ran:

./install_full.sh -m imx477

Thanks. Can you paste the full output from the script? I want to see what it detects before it bails out.

Here’s the full output:

./install_full.sh: line 19: warning: command substitution: ignored null byte in input
Raspberry Pi 5 Model B Rev 1.0
dpkg-query: no packages found matching nvidia-l4t-kernel

Then it downloads modules.txt (1986 bytes) and imx477_links.txt (17678 bytes), and finally:

Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to [email protected]

Detected environment:
Kernel version: 6.6.31+rpt-rpi-2712
Jetson type: Raspberry Pi 5 Model B Rev 1.0

That output is interesting - it’s printing ‘Jetson type’ and querying for nvidia-l4t-kernel. The install_full.sh script you grabbed is from the MIPI_Camera repo, which is aimed at Jetson devices, not the Raspberry Pi. Which instructions were you following when you picked that script?

I found that script and the -m imx477 command in some install steps and just went with it. I did also email support to ask if there’s an updated driver or install script that supports the Pi 5.

You’re mixing the Jetson steps with the Raspberry Pi steps. That install_full.sh script is platform-specific - on a Pi 5 it has no matching deb package because it’s checking for Jetson/NVIDIA packages, which is exactly why you see the nvidia-l4t-kernel query. The null byte warning on line 19 is another side effect of that script trying to parse Jetson-related info.

For the IMX477 on a Pi 5 running Bookworm, skip install_full.sh entirely and follow the native Raspberry Pi camera guide instead:

https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Native-camera/12MP-IMX477/#bookworm-os-pi-5

Use the ‘Bookworm OS, Pi 5’ section and ignore the Jetson device steps.

Ah, that explains a lot. Let me redo it with the Pi 5 / Bookworm steps from that link instead.

Good plan. For reference, the warning and the nvidia-l4t-kernel dpkg-query are both signs the script was looking at Jetson packages, which is why it failed to find a deb for your Pi 5. Following the correct native Raspberry Pi IMX477 guide should get you sorted. Let us know how it goes.

Perfect, it works!!

Great to hear. Just to wrap up: the original failure was caused by using the Jetson-oriented install_full.sh on a Raspberry Pi 5. The script couldn’t locate a matching deb package for that platform, and the nvidia-l4t-kernel query / Jetson type line were the giveaway. Using the native Raspberry Pi documentation for the 12MP IMX477 (Bookworm OS, Pi 5) resolved it:
