Hi, I recently got an Arducam camera and I’m trying to use it with my Nvidia Jetson Nano. I can get frames from the terminal without any issue, but when I try to capture frames from Python code, nothing works. Has anyone else run into this? The terminal part works fine, it’s only the Python side that fails.
Thanks for the details. Since you’re able to get frames from the terminal, the camera hardware itself looks functional, so this is probably something specific to the Python code. Which Arducam camera did you purchase? Can you share the exact model so I can point you to the right docs?
It’s the IMX477. Also, do you happen to have any supporting videos or sample camera code I could look at? I’m a bit stuck on the Python side.
Got it, IMX477. Just to narrow this down - is the Python code you’re using from the Arducam website, or is it something custom/from another source?
No, the Python code I’m using is not from the Arducam website.
I’ve been following the instructions at this URL: Quick start - Arducam Wiki and when I run it I get this error: No module named ‘jtop’.
Here’s a screenshot of the error:
I think I see what’s happening. The link you’re following is for the Jetvariety (Global Shutter) camera, not the IMX477 - that’s the wrong documentation for your camera. Since frames work from the terminal, your camera hardware is fine and out of the question. The ‘No module named jtop’ error is separate: it means the jtop module isn’t installed in your Python environment. Please switch to the correct IMX477 documentation and make sure jtop is available in the environment you’re running your script from.
Thanks, that makes sense. I switched to the right docs and now I am getting frames, but I’m seeing a flickering issue while capturing. Do you have a link for the flickering problem? I remember seeing something about it somewhere.
For Python-based camera capture on Jetson, I’d start with the CSI-Camera reference from jetsonhacks. You can find it here: GitHub - jetsonhacks/CSI-Camera: Simple example of using a CSI-Camera (like the Raspberry Pi Version 2 camera) with the NVIDIA Jetson Developer Kit · GitHub - that repository covers Python capture on Jetson boards and should help confirm your capture setup. As for the flickering itself, the specific cause still needs more investigation (things like exposure settings, lighting conditions, or frame rate can all play a part), but getting the Python capture verified with that reference is a good next step.
