UCTRONICS SKU B0241 camera not detected on Raspberry Pi 3 Model B - max shutter speed?

Hi all, I’ve got an Arducam IMX477-based camera (UCTRONICS SKU B0241) hooked up to a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, but I keep getting ‘camera not detected’ when I connect it. I’ve looked around but haven’t found clear setup steps — does anyone have a manual, setup video, or a list of required software/downloads for getting this running? Also, off-topic but related to my project: does anyone know the maximum shutter speed of this camera? I need it for some exposure calculations.

Welcome! For the IMX477 camera on a Pi 3, ‘camera not detected’ is usually because config.txt is still using auto-detection instead of loading the imx477 overlay. Let’s try the following:

sudo nano /boot/config.txt

Change camera_auto_detect from 1 to 0, and add dtoverlay=imx477 in the config. Save and exit, then run:

sudo raspi-config

Go to 6 Advanced Options → A8 Glamor and enable it. Then reboot the Pi. After it comes back up, test capture with:

libcamera-still -t 0

The key is having camera_auto_detect=0 together with dtoverlay=imx477 — that’s what makes this camera get picked up. Let me know what happens.

Thanks, I made those changes but I’m still seeing ‘camera not detected’. I wasn’t sure where dtoverlay=imx477 was supposed to go, so I added it in two places in /boot/config.txt — is there something I need to remove or change? Also, is there a manual specifically for installing the IMX477 version of this camera? If there’s a known-good config.txt I could compare against, that would really help. Here’s the error I’m getting now: image.png

Let’s grab some diagnostics so we can see what the system thinks is going on. After a reboot, run these commands:

wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report

That will create arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Attach it to your next reply and I’ll take a look at the device and configuration info.

I ran those commands over VNC viewer and attached arducam-bug-report.txt to this post. Also still wondering about the maximum shutter speed — I need that number for my project report, if anyone has it.

Thanks, I’ve reviewed the bug report and the software configuration actually looks normal — the overlay and auto-detect settings are as they should be. That makes me think this is more likely a hardware/cable connection issue. Can you post a couple of photos of how the camera is connected, especially the ribbon cable orientation and which connector it’s seated in?

On the maximum shutter speed: I don’t have a calculated value for that, so I can’t give you a specific number.

Quick update: libcamera-still -t 0 is working now! I’ve attached two screenshots (image.png). Now I mainly need reference material on how to calculate the maximum shutter speed, plus any documentation or posts about capturing images in various modes — like editing frame rates. Anything you can point me to would be great.

Great, glad libcamera-still -t 0 is working now. For the max shutter speed calculation — that comes from the IMX477 datasheet, and that datasheet isn’t open/available on our side, so I can’t help with that calculation. For the various capture modes and options, the best reference is the libcamera-still help output:

libcamera-still --help

That will show you the available modes, frame rate options, and other parameters you can tweak.
