Hi, I just got a UC-517 IMX477 module for my Jetson Nano and I can’t get the driver installed. When I run the automatic installation script it just fails saying it can’t find the corresponding deb package. My kernel seems to be a different version than what it expects. Any idea how I can download the right kernel version or find a compatible driver?
Here’s what I get when I run cat /etc/nv_tegra_release:
Hey, welcome. This is a common one. The auto-installer works by matching your exact kernel string against a list of prebuilt driver packages, and if there’s no matching prebuilt .deb for your kernel it just bails out. Your kernel is 4.9.253-tegra-32.6.1-20210726122000 (Jetson Nano, R32 revision 6.1, t210ref) and the installer couldn’t find a package for that build.
Try installing the driver manually instead. Grab this deb package and install it with dpkg:
Sorry for the slow reply, I was running tests to see if I could get it working but no luck. I tried the manual install with the deb you linked and it still fails partway through. Here’s what I get:
An unknown error occurred while installing dtoverlays.
dpkg: error processing package arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel (–install):
installed arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 255
Errors were encountered while processing:
arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel
So it’s blowing up during the post-installation script (the dtoverlays part). I was wondering, would booting the Jetson from USB instead of the SD card be a solution here? I’m kind of stuck.
Thanks for the detailed error, that helps a lot. So the deb itself is installing, it’s the post-install script that’s failing when it goes to install the dtoverlays, and that returns exit status 255. That usually points to something about the actual board setup/environment rather than the package itself.
Before we go down the USB boot path, can you send me a couple of pictures of your Jetson Nano device? Front and back. I want to see the actual board and how it’s set up so I can figure out what’s going on with the overlay installation.
Also, just to confirm, which exact image are you running and are you currently booting from SD or already from USB?
Sure, I can get you pictures. Right now I’m booting from the SD card, the USB thing was just an idea I had since nothing else was working. I’ll take front and back photos of the Nano and post them shortly.
Do you think the USB boot would actually help, or is the issue somewhere else? I don’t want to spend time reflashing if it’s not related.
Hold off on the USB boot for now, let’s not change two things at once. The dtoverlays failure happens before anything USB-related would matter, so reflashing to USB boot would likely just reproduce the same 255 error and cost you time.
Send the front and back pictures of the Nano when you can, and in the meantime I’ll check the overlay step against your kernel. If there’s anything board-specific that’s interfering with the overlay install, the photos should make it obvious.
To sum up where we are right now: the automatic installer can’t find a prebuilt deb for kernel 4.9.253-tegra-32.6.1-20210726122000, so we switched to the manual deb install. That got further but the arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel post-install script fails while installing the dtoverlays and exits with status 255. We’re gathering hardware photos now to pin down the actual root cause before proceeding, so this one isn’t resolved yet.
