Hi all — hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I accidentally fed 24V into the sync board for my monocular quad camera setup on a Jetson, and the board is fried. The board is a UC-512 Rev.D1. Looking at it, there are two chips marked ‘189Z’ that are visibly damaged. Has anyone dealt with this kind of damage before, or know what those chips are?
Ouch, 24V into that board will definitely do some damage. Before we dig in, can you confirm the exact camera bundle you’re running? The UC-512 Rev.D1 is used in a couple of quad-camera kits. Is it the standard 1MP quad bundle (Arducam 1MP*4 Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit for Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson Nano/Xavier NX, Four OV9782 Global Shutter Color Camera Modules and Camarray Camera HAT), or the OV9281 global shutter monochrome version (Arducam 1MP*4 Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit for Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson Nano/Xavier NX, Four OV9281 Global Shutter Monochrome Camera Modules and Camarray Camera HAT)? That’ll help us figure out which firmware and board revision applies.
It’s the newest monochrome setup with the OV9281 modules. I also have a spare sync board that came with the color version of the kit — it’s also a UC-512 Rev.D1, same revision. Two things I’m wondering: can I flash the mono firmware onto that color-version board and just use it? And can you tell me what the ‘189Z’ chip actually is? I’d like to try replacing those two components myself if it’s something standard.
Thanks, OV9281 it is. On the firmware question, I don’t want to give you a yes/no without checking — the color and mono kits might differ in more than just firmware, so let me confirm that. On the self-repair side, I’d strongly advise against it. The ‘189Z’ marking isn’t something we can identify as a field-replaceable part, and a 24V hit can damage more than just the two visibly burned chips. While we’re at it — do you know if the four cameras themselves survived? They were on the same power path.
I tested all four cameras with another set I have and they’re all fine — the OV9281s, if we’re being precise. So I’d really just need the sync board. If you can share the component ID for those two ‘189Z’ chips, I’d still like to try swapping them to see if the board comes back. Getting a new board shipped to Switzerland is pricey, so I’d rather attempt the repair first.
Good to hear the cameras are okay. Unfortunately I can’t hand out a part number for the ‘189Z’ chips — they’re not something we support for field replacement, and after a 24V overvoltage there’s no guarantee swapping those two would bring the board back anyway. So we really don’t recommend repairing it yourself. I’ve sent you a private message with details on getting a replacement UC-512 Rev.D1 board if you want to go that route.
Thanks. I’ve seen your message — let’s go ahead with the replacement board. Can you send over what I need to confirm so I can get it ordered? I’ll finalize everything from there.
To summarize where we’ve landed: the original UC-512 Rev.D1 sync board is dead from the 24V incident, with visible damage to two ‘189Z’ chips. The cameras were verified working with another set, so those are fine. We weren’t able to provide a component ID for a DIY repair, and given the overvoltage we don’t advise attempting one. I’ve sent the replacement board details privately — check your messages and just reply there with the confirmation.
