Two Arducam B0429 cameras not working on Jetson Orin Nano

Quick correction from my earlier post — I’m on the Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano development kit, not the Orin AGX. What I’m trying to do is run two Arducam B0429 cameras on the same Orin Nano for a dual camera setup, and it’s just not working. Anyone know if two of these can even run together?

Thanks for clarifying the board model. Could you share a bit more about the setup? Which carrier board are you using, and how do you have the two B0429s connected? Any error output from dmesg or the camera driver would be really helpful too.

Sure. The environment is: Arducam B0429 module, Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano dev kit. I don’t have code to share and I haven’t grabbed logs yet. One thing that stands out though — my other IMX219-based cameras work perfectly in a dual camera setup, so this really does seem specific to the B0429.

That’s a useful detail — IMX219 working fine points away from a general dual-camera issue. Next step: can you test each B0429 individually, one at a time? And let me know which physical port on the carrier board you’re plugging into. With these modules, the specific port matters.

I tested each B0429 by itself and both work fine on their own — it’s only when I try both together that it falls apart. Do you know what the actual source of this problem is? I’m honestly willing to patch the flex connector or even the Jetson at the hardware level if that’s what it takes. And is Arducam going to fix this bug?

Here’s what we’ve found on our side: the B0429 has a known compatibility issue on NVIDIA Jetson devices. For example, it’s not compatible with the Jetson Orin AGX CAM0 input port. On the Orin Nano specifically, only one camera port can work with a B0429 — and which port works depends on your particular carrier board. Some customers have port 1 working, others have port 2. Two B0429s at the same time on the same Jetson isn’t currently possible, even though IMX219 modules handle dual setups fine.

Okay, so it sounds like a hardware-level incompatibility rather than something a driver update would fix. Does that mean Arducam won’t be fixing it at all?

Right — the root cause here is a design flaw in the NVIDIA Jetson hardware itself. It’s not just the Orin Nano either; the Jetson Orin NX has the same problem. We’ve had similar inquiries from a lot of customers over the years. Unfortunately there’s no solution for it right now, and no bug fix available from Arducam at this time. If you’re using the B0429 on the Orin Nano, you’re limited to one camera port — you’ll need to determine which port works on your specific carrier board (either port 1 or port 2). A dual B0429 setup isn’t supported on the Orin Nano or Orin NX.

Thanks, that’s disappointing but at least it’s clear now. Separate problem though — while I was messing with the hardware I broke the ZIF connector that links the AR0234 camera module to the green PCB on the B0429 module. Do you have the part number for that connector? I’d like to buy just that piece and replace it myself.

Sorry to hear the connector broke. Just to confirm I’m tracking the right part: you’re after the ZIF connector between the AR0234 camera module and the green PCB on the B0429 module, correct? I’ll need to check on the exact part number for that one. To recap the original issue: the dual B0429 setup isn’t something that can be resolved right now — it’s an NVIDIA Jetson hardware design limitation (also affects the Orin NX), there’s no fix available from Arducam at this time, and you’re limited to whichever single port works on your carrier board.
