Hi everyone, I’m trying to get a Sony IMX477 camera (Arducam) working on a Jetson TX2-NX module, but the camera just isn’t being detected. The probe for the arducam-csi2 device keeps failing. My setup is a Jetson TX2-NX module with a Sony IMX477 Camera from Arducam. Has anyone run into this before?
Could you share the dmesg output around the probe failure? That should show exactly where it’s dying. Also let me know what you’ve already tried so far.
Sure, here’s what I’m seeing in dmesg:
[ 1.457335] arducam-csi2: arducam_read: Reading register 0x103 failed
[ 1.463836] arducam-csi2 10-000c: probe failed
[ 1.468342] arducam-csi2 10-000c: Failed to setup board.
I’ve already made changes in the device tree and added driver support, but it still won’t come up.
Thanks. That ‘Reading register 0x103 failed’ line means the driver can’t even talk to the sensor over I2C — the probe fails before it gets anywhere. Can you confirm exactly which camera module this is and which driver you’re using? I want to rule out an address or binding mismatch first.
It’s the Arducam B0249, which is the Sony IMX477. I followed the usual Arducam setup, modified the device tree for the TX2-NX, and added their driver support. The device shows up at 10-000c but the read keeps failing.
Got it. That combination is the issue. Arducam doesn’t release a camera driver for the Jetson TX2-NX module, so their camera modules and drivers aren’t supported on that platform. Even with the device tree changes and the driver added, the probe can’t succeed. The register read failure at 0x103 is exactly what you’d expect when there’s no compatible driver for this module — the sensor never gets initialized properly.
Just to wrap up: there’s no driver support available for the Jetson TX2-NX, so the IMX477/B0249 can’t be enabled on this platform as-is. Device tree edits and adding the driver won’t get past that probe failure, unfortunately. If Arducam ever releases a driver specifically for the TX2-NX, you’d need that before the camera would even register.
