Hey everyone, hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I’ve got an Arducam 64MP Hawkeye running on a Raspberry Pi 5 (Bookworm OS). The camera works fine with the ribbon cable that shipped with it, but I need something longer, so I grabbed a 300mm cable. As soon as I use the longer cable, the Pi won’t boot at all — it just sits there dead. I thought maybe I got a bad cable, so I tried a couple of new ones, but every single one gives me the same result. Does anyone know of a cable that actually works with this camera, or what might be going on? Doesn’t have to be exactly 300mm, just needs to be longer than the stock one.
Thanks for the info. That definitely sounds like the cable is the culprit rather than the camera itself. Could you post a few pictures of the cable you’re using — both the front and back of the connectors? The type and orientation of the FFC matters a lot here, and that’ll help me figure out what’s going on.
Sure, here are the pics I have. Let me know if you need a different angle.
Thanks, but I can’t quite make out what I need from those. Would you mind posting one full picture of the whole cable laid out flat, showing both ends in a single shot? I’m trying to confirm which FFC type you’re dealing with.
Not sure that last attachment was sent. Trying again.
Okay, here’s the full cable:

Re-sending in case the last upload didn’t go through:

Got it — that confirms what I suspected. You’re using a Type A FFC cable. A Type A FFC will short the Raspberry Pi when it’s connected, which is exactly why it refuses to boot. The fix is to use a Type B FFC instead. The Arducam 30cm 22-pin ribbon cable is Type B and should do what you need:
Swap the Type A out for one of those and the Pi should boot normally.
That makes sense, thanks! So Type A shorts the Pi and prevents boot, and Type B is the correct one. I’ll grab the 30cm 22-pin cable you linked.

No problem. Just to recap for anyone else hitting this: on these 22-pin Arducam setups, the FFC type is critical — Type A shorts the Pi and stops it from booting, while Type B is the correct type. Once you’re on a Type B cable it should come up like normal. Let us know if anything else pops up after you swap it.
