Pip install ArducamDepthCamera fails on Raspberry Pi Zero W 32-bit Bullseye Python 3.9.2

Hi everyone, I’m trying to use an Arducam ToF camera on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with a Python script. I followed the Arducam getting-started guide and the example scripts on GitHub, but I can’t even get the Python package installed. Has anyone run into this?

Welcome. What OS image are you running, and what exactly happens when you install the package? If you can paste the full pip command and output, that would help.

Sure. I’m on 32-bit Bullseye, image dated 2023-05-03, and Python 3.9.2 on a Pi Zero W. I used the docs at Getting Started: Arducam ToF Camera for Raspberry Pi - Arducam Wiki and the examples at Arducam_tof_camera/example/python at main · ArduCAM/Arducam_tof_camera · GitHub . The step that fails is pip install ArducamDepthCamera.

Thanks. Could you paste the exact error text from the pip command?

Here it is:
pip install ArducamDepthCamera
ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement ArducamDepthCamera
ERROR: No matching distribution found for ArducamDepthCamera

Got it. That “No matching distribution found” error means pip couldn’t find a wheel for your platform. This came up because the previous ArducamDepthCamera package distribution did not include support for the Raspberry Pi Zero W. Arducam has since updated the SDK to add Pi Zero W support. Can you retry the setup from scratch using the official getting-started page? Getting Started: Arducam ToF Camera for Raspberry Pi - Arducam Wiki

Okay, I’ll go through that page again from scratch and run the install fresh. Do I need to remove anything first, or just retry the pip install?

You shouldn’t need to manually remove anything, since the earlier pip attempt never found a package to install. Just start over from the getting-started guide and run the install again. To recap: on your Pi Zero W, 32-bit Bullseye, Python 3.9.2, the old package had no matching distribution, which is why pip failed. The updated SDK adds Pi Zero W support, so retrying from the official page should now resolve that install error.
