Hi everyone, I’m running into a problem with the OV2311 camera during image acquisition. All the edges are shifted or blurred in the images from the OV2311.
I bought both an OV9281 and an OV2311 for a project:
Hi, thanks for the detailed description and the resolution comparisons, that helps a lot.
Based on what you’re describing, this looks most likely like the image is being compressed too heavily, which can result in an unclear/blurry image with smeared edges.
The first thing I’d suggest is to try it with the YUV format instead. Give that a shot and let me know how the images come out.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the problem is still ongoing.
I tried what you suggested. I used the ‘AMCap’ application as specified in the manual, and tested the following:
‘MJPG’ compression at 1600x1200
‘YUY2’ compression at 1600x1200
But there has been no change at all. I also captured images with the ‘MJPG’ compression and the ‘YUY2’ compression at 1600x1200, and both still show the same shifted/blurred edges.
For comparison, I’m attaching a zoomed-in version of the image taken from the same scene with the 1mp camera (the one that is NOT the problem), so you can see the difference.
The problem is still ongoing. What do you suggest I do?
Thanks for testing both compression formats and for the zoomed-in comparison shot, that’s really useful.
So since switching between MJPG and YUY2 at 1600x1200 made no difference, compression is probably not the actual cause here. My next suspect is the sensor resolution configuration. Different sensors have different specific configuration, and it’s possible the OV2311 isn’t being configured correctly at these resolutions.
I’ll test and optimize this on our side. If we can optimize it, I’ll send you a new firmware and you can update the firmware on the camera.
I’ve sent the details through private message, please check it. I’ll follow up once we have the results of the optimization.
