[Orin Nano] Arducam B0429 (AR0234) Timeout Issue: Frame rate drops to 1 FPS and CSI lanes switch after first run

Arducam Forum Support Request (Final Version)

1. Where did you get the camera module(s)?

2. Model number of the product(s)?

  • B0429 (Arducam AR0234 Color Global Shutter)

3. What hardware/platform were you working on?

  • Hardware: NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit
  • JetPack Version: 6.2.1 (L4T 36.4.7)
  • Boot Environment: Booting from SD card and pivoting to NVMe SSD.

4. Instructions you have followed. (link/manual/etc.)

  • I tried using the official install_full.sh script multiple times, but it failed consistently with errors.
  • Due to the script failure, I had to perform a manual installation of the Jetvariety driver, configuring the kernel modules and device tree overlays manually for L4T 36.4.7.

5. Problems you were having?

  • The camera works perfectly only once immediately after a cold boot.
  • Lane Switching Issue: When monitoring the logs, the MIPI configuration initially starts at 2-lane (working fine). However, during execution, it suddenly switches to 4-lane.
  • Once it switches to 4-lane, any subsequent attempts to run the camera result in a black screen, 1~2 FPS, and persistent timeout errors. It stays stuck in the 4-lane state until a full reboot.

6. The dmesg log from your hardware?

`Bash# Initially starts at 2-lane (Working)
[ 155.859376] arducam-csi2 9-000c: show_csi_params: csi port lanes: 2

Suddenly switches to 4-lane during execution (Failed)

[ 156.959958] arducam-csi2 9-000c: set_channel_lanes: csi port lanes: 4

Subsequent runs result in constant timeouts

[ 219.615717] tegra-camrtc-capture-vi tegra-capture-vi: uncorr_err: request timed out after 2500 ms
[ 219.615742] tegra-camrtc-capture-vi tegra-capture-vi: err_rec: attempting to reset the capture channel`

7. Troubleshooting attempts you’ve made?

  • Service Reset: Restarted nvargus-daemon (No effect).
  • Hardware: Re-seated the MIPI CSI ribbon cable multiple times.

8. What help do you need?

  • Is there a way to force the arducam_csi2 driver to stay in 2-lane mode and prevent it from automatically switching to 4-lane?
  • Why does the lane count switch suddenly and remain stuck at 4-lane after the session ends?
  • How can I fully reset the MIPI CSI bridge state without a full system reboot on the Orin Nano Super?

Hi there,
I’m curious how you manually configure the kernel modules to adapt the Jetvariety driver on your Jetson Orin Nano.
Besides, plz tell me which csi port you connect the camera to on the Jetson.
