Optimal Resolution and Frame Rate for Streaming 64MP Camera via WiFi on Raspberry Pi CM4

  1. Where did you get the camera module(s)?
    Botland

  2. Model number of the product(s)?
    ArduCam B0399

  3. What hardware/platform were you working on?
Raspberry Pi CM4 Lite (CM4104000) + Nano Base Board (B) from Waveshare

  4. Instructions you have followed. (link/manual/etc.)
GitHub - bluenviron/mediamtx: Ready-to-use SRT / WebRTC / RTSP / RTMP / LL-HLS media server and media proxy that allows to read, publish, proxy, record and playback video and audio streams.

  5. Problems you were having?
I’ve been experimenting with video capture and streaming over WiFi but encountered performance issues:
Local capture: Can achieve 4624 x 3472 pixels at 10 fps without issues. Higher resolutions cause DMA Heap errors.
    Streaming via MediaMTX:
    1080p / 30 fps: Works fine
    2312 x 1736 pixels / 30 fps: Shows pixelation.
    3840 x 2160 pixels / 20 fps: Displays screen tearing.
Resolutions higher than this are not feasible.

  6. The dmesg log from your hardware?

  7. Troubleshooting attempts you’ve made?

  8. What help do you need?
What’s the highest resolution and frame rate achievable for streaming via WiFi on the Raspberry Pi CM4? Are there additional optimizations or configurations I can use to improve streaming performance at higher resolutions?

get raspberry pi 5 it will have a lot less dma heap issues. i think at max res u can stream like 1 fps. u can use yuv420 or some other encoding instead of rgb888 to optimize image size
