Hi everyone, I’m using an Arducam/uctronics B0423 camera on a Raspberry Pi 4B with libcamera. After a firmware update the camera is detected fine, and I can run GStreamer with libcamerasrc locally. But I’m stuck at 30fps at 1280x720. I thought the B0423 supports up to 90fps at different resolutions? My end goal is to stream the data over the network with GStreamer, so I’d also like to know which formats are supported and how to set up the streaming properly. Anyone know how to push the FPS higher?
Can you check a couple of things first? Make sure you have dtoverlay=imx462 in /boot/config.txt, then reboot. Also, could you post pictures of the physical connections on both the camera side and the Pi side? That helps rule out wiring issues.
While you’re at it, grab a bug report so we can see how the camera is being detected. Run:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report
It’ll create arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please attach that to your next reply so we can look at the detection details.
Quick update: I got GStreamer streaming over UDP working to another machine, but the FPS is still very low at 1280x720. It runs, just not at a useful frame rate.
Just to set expectations: there’s actually an error on the product page about the frame rate. This camera uses the official Raspberry Pi driver, and the maximum is 60fps — not 90. So anything beyond 60 won’t be possible.
Can you share the exact streaming command/pipeline you’re using? That will let us give you a more specific answer about where the bottleneck is.
Thanks for the correction. Even so, I’m only getting 30fps both locally and over the network, so I’m still below 60. Could you help with a GStreamer pipeline to get max FPS and stream it over the network to another device? Am I missing some buffer setting or caps that would unlock the higher rate? Also, do you have recommendations for IR cameras with similar sensitivity to the B0423 but higher FPS?
On my side I can reach 60fps locally with the camera using:
libcamera-still -t 0 --framerate 60
So the camera itself can do 60 locally. The drop to 30 over the network might be tied to your streaming setup. To reproduce it, can you walk me through your exact procedure for streaming the camera to the network — the full pipeline, how the receiver is set up, and what resolution/framerate you’re requesting? If you want a specific framerate, let me know the exact value and I can adjust the pipeline accordingly.
