One Arducam IMX519 16MP camera shows no image on Raspberry Pi CM4 while the other works

Hi everyone. I’m running two Arducam IMX519 autofocus camera modules (B0371) on a Raspberry Pi CM4 with Arducam’s libcamera and libcamera-apps build. One camera shows a normal image, but the second one just gives a black preview window in libcamera. The only message I see is:
“Please check that your camera sensor connector is attached securely. Alternatively, try another cable and/or sensor.”
The working camera is fine on the same setup, so I’m a bit lost.

Thanks for the report. Before we dig further, have you tried swapping the order of the two cameras on the CM4? If the black preview follows the same camera to the other connector, the fault is probably with that module. If the problem stays with the connector, then it’s the port/board.

Yes, I switched the order and the same camera still shows black. The good camera works in either connector. I also followed the Arducam libcamera install guide and ran the bug report on a second Pi — same result, one IMX519 works and the other doesn’t display anything.

Understood. Can you attach the arducam-bug-report.txt from that run so I can check what the failing camera reports? For reference, make sure libcamera is installed from:
https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Native-camera/Libcamera-User-Guide/#getting-started
Then with the failing camera connected, reboot and run:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report
It writes arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Attach it here or send it to me in a private message.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Switched the order of the cameras — same result.
  • Switched the cable and the port — the identical second camera works on that same cable/connector combination, but the problem camera still shows black.
  • Disconnected and reconnected the connector on the camera board itself — no change.
  • Installed Arducam libcamera and libcamera-apps and ran the bug report on another Pi — same result.
The report doesn’t show the failing camera producing an image either.

Thanks. The fact that the good camera works on every cable and port you’ve tried while the bad one stays black points at the module itself. Do you have a second CM4 board available? I’d like to rule out the board side completely.

Yes, I have two CM4 boards. I switched the order of the cameras on both boards and got the same result on both. I also tried every combination of cables, ports, and boards I have — the bad camera doesn’t work on any of them.

That’s about as conclusive as it gets. The identical second IMX519 works across all of those same cables, ports, and boards, so the fault follows the failing camera module itself. I don’t see a software fix for this one — it looks like a hardware defect in that specific IMX519 autofocus module. I’d reach out to Arducam support directly with these test results for next steps on the module.
