Hi all, I’m stuck with a Camarray setup and hoping someone can help. I have a Raspberry Pi 4B with a B0265R HAT and two 12.3MP IMX477 camera modules with CS lenses. The cameras are connected to connectors 2 and 3 of the Camarray board, but I get no image at all. I’ve followed the quick start guide (Quick Start Guide for Arducam CamArray HAT Kit - Arducam Wiki) and I’m running i2cset -y 10 0x24 0x24 0x11, but it doesn’t change anything. I’ve tried moving the modules across all the connectors and combining them with that i2c command — only connectors 0 and 1 ever work. I even borrowed 2 more modules from another identical kit and tested 4 total, and the only combined image I can get is still from 0 and 1. Is there a firmware change needed to activate connectors 2 and 3? Also, can the HAT B0397 board that ships with the 12MP*4 Quadrascopic Camera (M12 lens) be used with the CS lens version of those cameras instead? And where is the quartz (clock) — on one of the IMX477 cameras or on the HAT board?
Thanks for the detailed report. For the B0265R: that board is a dual CamArray module, not a quad. It only exposes RX0 and RX1, so connectors 0 and 1 are the supported ones. RX2 and RX3 are not enabled on this HAT by design, which is why connectors 2 and 3 give no image regardless of the i2c command. There’s also no firmware change available to unlock them — the camera firmware is proprietary/closed and isn’t provided to customers, so RX2/RX3 can’t be activated from your side. For this board, please use connectors 0 and 1 only.
Thanks, that makes sense about the B0265R being dual. I’ll stick to connectors 0 and 1 for that board. About my other two questions — could you confirm whether the B0397 HAT from the M12 lens kit can be used with the CS lens type 12MP IMX477 Quadrascopic cameras? And any info on whether the quartz/clock is on the HAT or on one of the cameras?
On the B0397 question: yes, using the CS lens type cameras with the B0397 HAT is feasible and works in practice. The board sold with M12 lens type cameras is interchangeable with the CS lens type 12MP IMX477 Quadrascopic cameras.
For the ‘quartz’ part — I want to make sure I understand what you mean. Are you referring to the clock source that triggers/synchronizes the cameras? Could you clarify the component you’re asking about?
Sorry for the confusion — yes, by ‘quartz’ I mean the clock: the electronic component that makes all 4 cameras capture at the same time. My understanding is that if the clock is on the HAT, then any combination of IMX477 cameras (M12 or CS lenses) can be used. But if the clock is on one of the cameras, then the other 3 must not have it. Is that correct?
Thanks, that clears it up. In this design the quartz/clock is not placed on one of the four cameras — it’s soldered on the HAT board, and the clock signal is sent by the HAT. So your understanding is correct: because the clock is centralized on the HAT, you can use any combination of IMX477 cameras with the board, whether M12 or CS lens type. I’ve attached a small sketch showing the clock placement/signal layout for reference.
