No config file for OV9782 UC-852 global shutter camera to record video in Python

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help because I’m kind of stuck here.

I’m trying to record video from my camera with Python. It’s a Global shutter OV9782, and the label on it says UC-852. The problem is I can’t find any configuration file for this specific model in the vendor GitHub repo.

I tried reusing the config file for the OV9782 UC-593, but it doesn’t work at all, so I’m assuming I need the config file for my exact camera. Is there any way to get the config file for the UC-852? Could you post it on GitHub? I really need it for my thesis work and I’m completely blocked without it. Any help would be amazing, thanks!

Hi, sorry you’re running into trouble with this. Let’s figure out exactly what you have first.

Before we go looking for any config file, could you tell us the SKU number of the camera? If you can’t find the SKU, a couple of clear pictures of the camera would work too — one of the front and one of the back.

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe the SKU is UC-852, that’s what I could find. I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the camera so you can confirm.

Thanks for the pictures, that clears things up.

So I think I see where the confusion is coming from. The camera you have is a standard UVC camera, not a USB_camera_shield module. The shield modules are the ones that need a config file applied to work. Your camera is different — it gets recognized by the device directly as soon as it’s plugged in, so there’s no config file needed here at all.

No config file required, just plug it in and it should show up.

Okay, that makes sense, I get that it’s a standard UVC camera. But for my application I really need to control the cameras with Python. Is there no way to control them with the Python SDK? That’s the part I’m stuck on.

For a standard UVC camera, the usual way to control it from Python is through OpenCV. There are a ton of guides online covering OpenCV + UVC camera capture and control, so I’d start looking in that direction — you can probably work out the solution from there.

I appreciate that, and yes I know they’re standard UVC cameras and can be controlled with OpenCV. The issue is OpenCV functionality is pretty limited, and for what I need I have to control the cameras with the Arducam Python SDK to get complete control of them. So is there really no way to control these cameras with the vendor Python SDK?
