No compatible Jetpack SD image or driver for Arducam stereo on Jetson Nano 2GB

I’m having a load of trouble with the compatibility of both the driver and the Jetpack SD card image. I can’t find any Jetpack SD card image newer than 5.0 on the archive, and 5.0 doesn’t seem compatible with the drivers advertised on the GitHub page. On top of that the automatic install for JP 4.3 and later doesn’t look correct to me. Hoping someone can point me at the right versions.

Happy to dig in. Can you tell us a bit more about the setup so we can pin this down? Which board are you on (Nano 2GB / 4GB / Xavier NX), which Jetpack/L4T version did you flash, and which camera bundle are you using? Also, what exactly happens when you run the install script - any error output? It’d help to see the output of cat /etc/nv_tegra_release, uname -a, ls /dev/video*, and i2cdetect -y -r 6. And which GitHub page are you following for the drivers?

Board is the NVIDIA Jetson Nano 2GB Developer Kit. The camera is the Arducam 12MP/2 Synchronized Stereo Camera Bundle Kit for NVIDIA Jetson Nano and Xavier NX - two 12.3MP IMX477 camera modules with CS lens and the Camarray Stereo Camera HAT. I’ve been searching the Jetpack archive for an SD card image and the only ones I can find are 5.0 and above. I need something like JP 4.3 to match the driver but I can’t find it anywhere. When I run the automatic install for JP 4.3 and later it doesn’t seem to do the right thing.

Got it, that helps. A couple things worth checking first. The Jetpack SD card images in the archive are really named by their L4T/Jetpack combination, so a JP 4.3 image corresponds to L4T 32.3.1 - that’s the stack your IMX477 Camarray driver is written against. JP 5.0 is L4T 34.x/35.x and the driver won’t build or load against that kernel. Can you run cat /etc/nv_tegra_release and uname -a so we can confirm exactly what you flashed? Then ls /dev/video* and i2cdetect -y -r 6 to see whether the HAT is being detected on I2C at all.

Here’s what I get. /etc/nv_tegra_release shows R35 (release), REVISION: 1.0 - so it’s a 5.x image, not what I wanted. uname -a gives the 5.10 kernel. ls /dev/video* shows the onboard video nodes but nothing for the stereo pairs, and i2cdetect -y -r 6 only shows a single address, not the second IMX477. The automatic installer ran to the end but the stereo pair still doesn’t enumerate. That’s exactly why I’d rather just get the old JP SD card image and the matching driver and install manually.

That output actually confirms the mismatch - you’re on the L4T 35 / JP 5.x kernel, so the Camarray driver build target (L4T 32.3.1 / JP 4.3) doesn’t line up with what’s flashed. The automatic install script assumes the older stack, which is why it finishes without actually bringing the cameras up. There are two paths here, and I’ve written up the specifics in the GitHub issue tracker so it’s all in one place: Correct Jetpack Version & Driver for Arducam 12MP*2 Synchronized Stereo Camera IMX477 & NANO 2GB dk · Issue #164 · ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera · GitHub - please take a look at that thread and follow the steps there. If it still fails, post your dmesg | grep -i imx477 output in that issue.

Thanks, I read through the issue thread. I tried the manual build route on the 5.x image first and after building the driver dmesg shows imx477: probe failed and still no video0/video1 pair - so that path clearly isn’t working on this kernel. Before I reflash down to 4.3, I really just want the actual download page for a compatible SD card image and the matching driver for the Nano 2GB. I’d prefer direct download links for the OLD Jetpack image and its driver alongside it rather than relying on the JP 4.3+ automatic install, since that hasn’t been correct for me.

Understood, and that’s a fair ask. To set expectations for anyone else reading this thread: at the moment the archive listing doesn’t expose a Jetpack SD card image older than 5.0, and the JP 4.3+ automatic installer isn’t matching what the GitHub driver page advertises - that mismatch is the whole root of this. The authoritative answer for your exact bundle is in the GitHub issue we’re tracking: Correct Jetpack Version & Driver for Arducam 12MP*2 Synchronized Stereo Camera IMX477 & NANO 2GB dk · Issue #164 · ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera · GitHub - I’ve replied there with the image version and driver pairing you should be using for the Nano 2GB, and where to download them. Follow that thread for the image and matching driver, and if the build still fails with imx477: probe failed, drop your full dmesg and i2cdetect -y -r 6 output into that issue so we can compare it against a known-good L4T 32.3.1 setup.
