No cameras available with Arducam Multi-Camera Array Module on Raspberry Pi 5 using libcamera-jpeg

Hi everyone, I’m stuck trying to get a BO484 Multi-Camera Array Module working on a Raspberry Pi 5. I followed the guide at libcamera and rpicam-apps - Arducam Wiki and ran:

libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg

I get this output:

[0:00:27.623276112] [1470] INFO Camera camera_manager.cpp:284 libcamera v0.2.0+46-075b54d5
Made X/EGL preview window
ERROR: *** no cameras available ***

Is this the correct method for the Multi-Camera Array Module? Any idea what the error means or how to fix it?

Can you post a couple of photos of the hardware connection? One of the Raspberry Pi end and one of the camera end. On a Pi 5 with libcamera v0.2.0, that ‘no cameras available’ error usually means libcamera isn’t detecting the camera at all, so I want to rule out the physical connection first.

Sure, here are the photos:

Let me know if the wiring looks wrong.

Thanks. I’d also like to check the system config. Can you generate a bug report? Here are the steps:

  1. Reboot your device.
  2. Download the bug report tool:
    wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/Dion4cen/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/Tool/arducam-camera-bug-report
  3. Make it executable:
    chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
  4. Run it:
    ./arducam-camera-bug-report
  5. It should produce an arducam-bug-report.txt file in the current directory. Please attach that file here.

Done. I rebooted, ran the tool, and it created the file. I also re-ran libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg and still get the same *** no cameras available *** error.

Bug report: arducam-bug-report.txt

The connection photos are in my earlier reply if you need them again.

I can see the issue in the bug report. The camera overlay is set to dtoverlay=imx708 without a camera instance. On the Pi 5, the imx708 needs the instance specified or libcamera won’t recognize the camera.

Try this:

  1. In the config file, change dtoverlay=imx708 to dtoverlay=imx708,cam0.
  2. Reboot the Pi 5.
  3. Run libcamera-jpeg -o test.jpg again after boot and see if it’s detected.

Let me know if that clears it up.
