No camera feed with nvarguscamerasrc and board crash on Jetson Nano B01 Arducam 12MP4 Kit

Hi, I’m trying to get my 12MP4 Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit (Arducam multi-camera adapter on Nano/Xavier NX) working on a Jetson Nano B01, but I can’t get any camera feed, and the board actually crashes after a while.

I’m following the example but nothing shows up. The commands I ran:

gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=4032,height=3040,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1432,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvoverlaysink

and

gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=$SENSOR_ID ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1920,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! nvoverlaysink

The program loads to “Consumer: Producer has connected; continuing” but no feed is shown. Then I get this in the terminal:

Things I already tried:

  • Reinstall the driver
  • Check the wiring
  • Swap the Arducam cable

I’ve attached a screenshot (no camera feed.png) showing the command running with no camera feed. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, thanks for all the details. Honestly, I can’t pin down the problem from what you’ve shared so far — I need some additional diagnostics before I can figure out what’s going on.

Two things I’d like you to do:

  1. Reboot your device, then run the Arducam bug report tool:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia
./arducam-camera-bug-report-nvidia

This will produce an arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please attach that file here.

  1. Tell me the detailed info about the exact command you ran in your last message. I want to make sure I understand what was executed.

Please reboot before running the report tool so the logs are clean. Thanks!

Just following up — were there any findings on the issue I reported earlier (no camera feed / board crashing)?

I’m on a Jetson Nano B01 with the 12MP4 Quadrascopic Camera Bundle Kit. The command I’m running is still:

gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=4032,height=3040,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1432,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvoverlaysink

It loads to “Consumer: Producer has connected; continuing” but no feed is shown, and I get:

nvbuf_utils: dmabuf_fd -1 mapped entry NOT found
nvbuf_utils: Can not get HW buffer from FD... Exiting...
CONSUMER: ERROR OCCURRED
ERROR: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstNvArgusCameraSrc:nvarguscamerasrc0: CANCELLED
(Argus) Error EndOfFile: Unexpected error in reading socket (ClientSocketManager.cpp, recvThreadCore(), line 266)

Still the same after reinstalling the driver, checking the wiring, and swapping the Arducam cable. Screenshot (no camera feed.png) attached again.

Thanks for the follow-up. I think I see one thing that’s off right away: you’re using a resolution that the camera doesn’t actually support, so the pipeline is being set up with a bad format.

Can you first verify which resolutions are actually supported? Install v4l-utils, then run:

v4l2-ctl --list-formats-ext

You’ll see the supported resolutions listed in the terminal. Then set one of those supported formats and try again.

Waiting for your feedback — please share what the supported resolutions come back as.

Okay, I re-ran it with the resolution I found via v4l2-utils. Good news: no crashes so far. But there’s still no camera feed after the line is run, and I’m not sure why it’s not showing up.

Commands I’m using now:

ben@ben-desktop:~$ v4l2-ctl --list-formats-ext
ben@ben-desktop:~$ gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=$SENSOR_ID ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1920,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! nvoverlaysink
ben@ben-desktop:~$ gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=4032,height=3040,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1432,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvoverlaysink

No crashes after changing to the supported format, but still no feed (see the screenshot attached). I still see the old errors, e.g.:

nvbuf_utils: dmabuf_fd -1 mapped entry NOT found
nvbuf_utils: Can not get HW buffer from FD... Exiting...
CONSUMER: ERROR OCCURRED
ERROR: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstNvArgusCameraSrc:nvarguscamerasrc0: CANCELLED

Still the same after reinstalling the driver, checking wiring, and swapping the cable.

Anyone have ideas? Still stuck on this — no camera feed on the Jetson Nano B01 with the 12MP4 Quadrascopic kit. Happy to run any test commands you suggest.

ben@ben-desktop:~$ gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=4032,height=3040,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1432,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvoverlaysink

We’re not sure which command you used in the terminal in that last screenshot. Can you tell us the exact command you ran in the screenshot?

Also, please run the command below at the moment the program lags like the screenshot shows:

dmesg >> dmesg_log.txt

Send us the dmesg_log.txt file and we should be able to locate the problem. Screenshots you attached are helpful, but the exact command plus the kernel log at the time it hangs is what we need here.

Sure — the command I’m using comes straight from the Arducam documentation, from the “On the preview camera feed in real time” step (camarray-arducam-12mp-synchronized-stereo-camera-bundle-kit, under the #10-check-the-driver section):

https://www.arducam.com/docs/camera-for-jetson-nano/multiple-cameras-on-the-jetson/camarray-arducam-12mp-synchronized-stereo-camera-bundle-kit/#10-check-the-driver

So literally:

FRAMERATE=13   # Framerate can go from 2 to 13 for 4032x3040 mode
gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=4032,height=3040,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvvidconv ! "video/x-raw(memory:NVMM),width=1432,height=1080,framerate=$FRAMERATE/1" ! nvoverlaysink

That’s the exact command I ran, and it still shows no camera feed. I’ll run the dmesg capture you asked for and upload the log.

Got it, thanks — that matches what we expected from the preview step in the docs.

Quick recap of where we’re at:

  • Switching to a resolution reported by v4l2-ctl --list-formats-ext stopped the board from crashing, so the earlier failure (nvbuf_utils: dmabuf_fd -1 mapped entry NOT found / “Can not get HW buffer from FD… Exiting…” followed by the Argus CANCELLED error) was tied to using an unsupported resolution.
  • Even with a supported format, you’re still seeing no preview from the nvoverlaysink pipeline, and no crash.
  • We still need the exact terminal command confirmed (done) plus the dmesg >> dmesg_log.txt output captured at the moment the pipeline hangs/lags, so we can check what the kernel reports for the sensor/VI at that point.

So at this stage the resolution problem is identified and worked around, but the missing camera feed isn’t fully resolved yet. Please attach the dmesg log when you have it and we’ll continue from there.
