Hey everyone, I’ve got an Arducam Mini SPI camera with the OV2640 sensor running on a Pico. I followed the paper instruction manual that came with it and the camera itself works great. My problem is I can’t find the client-side source code for HostApp.exe anywhere. Has anyone got a link to it, and maybe some build instructions?
Welcome! Glad to hear the camera is working for you. Just so I understand the goal - are you looking for the HostApp source so you can modify the host side, or are you trying to see how the stream is received and decoded?
Both, honestly. I’d like to build it myself and understand the host side better. I did find this GitHub issue: Windows source code and/or description for the ArduCAM_4CAM.exe · Issue #39 · ArduCAM/Arduino · GitHub which mentions source code, but what it links to looks pretty old. Not sure if that’s the right place.
That’s expected, unfortunately. The HostApp.exe client-side code is proprietary/closed-source, so it isn’t published anywhere and we’re not able to share it. The issue you found points to older related code, but it’s not the current HostApp.
That’s a bit disappointing, it makes the camera a lot harder to work with. Is there any example code at all, maybe Python, that can play the streamed video from the OV2640? I don’t need the whole HostApp, just something to receive and display the stream.
I hear you, but at the moment I’m not able to provide sample code for that either - we’re limited on time for that request. What I’d suggest instead is exploring streaming the camera within a host app. If you hit a specific question within that scope, let me know and I’ll try to help.
Just to recap where things stand: the HostApp.exe source code is not open sourced and won’t be shared, and we currently can’t provide a Python sample for playing the streamed video. The recommended path is to stream the camera within your own host app. If there’s anything else within the available support scope, feel free to ask.
