Hi everyone, I’m working with the Arducam 108MP Evaluation Kit and I can’t seem to find a couple of technical specs I need. Specifically I’m looking for the lens-to-sensor distance and the aperture diameter. My goal is to capture 2 images with either different lens-to-sensor distances or different apertures (aperture is the 1st priority). Does Arducam have any kit that can programmatically adjust the aperture? So far I’ve only found lens/mounts with a manually adjustable aperture.
Hi, thanks for posting. Before I point you anywhere, can you tell me a bit more about what you’ve tried so far? In the Windows GUI there is a focus control that might be relevant to what you’re asking about.
Sure. I’ve been following the ‘Get Started with 108MP Evaluation Kit on Windows’ wiki. In the GUI I can change the focus value from 0 to 1023, but I’m not sure whether that changes the lens-to-sensor distance or the focal length, and I don’t know what the unit is. Is it micrometres maybe?
Let me clarify how the focus control works on this kit. The focal length of the lens is fixed. Changing the focus value changes the focus distance - the kit uses motorised focus, so the lens moves up and down under the action of the motor. In a loose sense that could be thought of as the distance between the lens and the sensor, but Arducam does not have a specific numeric figure for it. So there’s no exact lens-to-sensor distance value I can hand you for a given focus value. Also, to answer the other part: Arducam does not currently have a product/kit that can programmatically adjust the lens aperture. For more details on the kit, check the 108MP USB3 Kit Quick Start Guide: 108MP USB3 Camera Evaluation Kit - Arducam Wiki
Thanks for that. Different question but related - I can’t find the datasheet for the 108MP sensor anywhere. I need things like the sensor size. Could you share the datasheet, or at least get that info added to the website?
For the 108MP kit specs, the product page for the Arducam 108MP USB 3.0 Camera Evaluation Kit (Motorised Focus), model EK030, is the place to look: Arducam 108MP USB 3.0 Camera Evaluation Kit, Motorised Focus
I checked that page, but I still don’t have enough to do the math. I’m trying to calculate object distance accurately, and I need two things: 1) the lens-to-sensor distance / focus, which I can change via the GUI but the exact unit is still unknown to me, and 2) the image distance from the lens. The product page doesn’t give enough information for either.
To summarise where we are on this: the focal length of the lens is fixed, and the focus value (0-1023) corresponds to the focus distance - i.e. the lens moving via the motor - not to the focal length. Arducam doesn’t publish a specific numeric figure for the lens-to-sensor distance, so I can’t give you an exact unit or value for each focus step. And as mentioned, there’s no kit available that can programmatically adjust the aperture. The product page (EK030) and the 108MP USB3 Kit Quick Start Guide are the best sources for the kit’s published specs, but the sensor datasheet-level details you’re asking for are not currently available on the website.
