Hi all, I’m stuck trying to get the ArduCAM UC-444 multi-camera adapter running on a Raspberry Pi 3B. I have the instructions in front of me, but I just can’t get two cameras working at the same time. When I run the capture code, it acts like there’s only one camera. Has anyone used this board on a Pi 3B and can point me in the right direction?
Hi, can you post a few photos of the physical connections — both at the Raspberry Pi end and at the camera end of the adapter? That usually helps us spot a wiring issue quickly. Also, could you run the camera bug report tool so we can see what the Pi is detecting? After a reboot, run these commands:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/Dion4cen/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/Tool/arducam-camera-bug-report
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report
./arducam-camera-bug-report
That will generate arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Please send that file to me in a private message rather than pasting it all in the thread.
Here are the connection photos from my Pi 3B setup (I attached several shots of both ends). I also ran the capture script again from the shell to double-check. It does save two files — camera1 and camera2 — but both images are actually coming from camera A. So it’s not that the second camera is completely dead, it’s like the adapter isn’t switching to camera B when it captures. Let me know if you need a different angle on any of the wiring.
Thanks for posting those photos, I’m going through them now. Did you manage to run the bug report tool? If you’ve got the arducam-bug-report.txt file, please send it over in a private message so I can see what the Pi reports. The camera1/camera2 both coming from camera A detail is really helpful, so keep that setup handy while we look into it.
Quick update — I’ve moved the whole setup over to a Raspberry Pi 5 to see if it behaves any differently there. But now I’m not sure I’m looking at the right manual for the Pi 5. Can you point me to the correct instructions for connecting the ArduCAM UC-444 to a Raspberry Pi 5? I don’t want to end up editing the wrong settings.
One common gotcha on the Pi 5 is that the config.txt location is different. On the Pi 5 it’s at /boot/firmware/config.txt, not /boot/config.txt like on the earlier boards. So if you’ve been editing /boot/config.txt, your changes won’t be picked up. Make sure you’re editing /boot/firmware/config.txt on the Pi 5.
Thanks, that helps. Do you have any pictures of the correct physical connection for the UC-444 on a Pi 5? And just to be clear — is the connection only through the CSI port, or is there something else that needs to be plugged in on the Pi 5?
Take a look at the official quick start guide for the multi adapter board, it covers the physical hookup and setup steps for the UC-444:
https://docs.arducam.com/Raspberry-Pi-Camera/Multi-Camera-CamArray/Quick-Start-Guide-for-Multi-Adapter-Board/
That should show the connection layout you’re asking about. For now, the main Pi 5-specific thing to watch is the config.txt path I mentioned above (/boot/firmware/config.txt). If you work through that guide and still get camera1 and camera2 both coming from camera A, let me know and we’ll dig into the bug report output next.
