My 3 Arducam USB cameras have same VID/PID on Jetson Orin, can't assign to algorithms

Hi everyone, I’m running into an issue with 3x Arducam Automatic IR-cut Switching Wide angle USB Camera Modules connected to a NVIDIA Jetson Orin. All three cameras report the exact same Vendor ID and Product ID when plugged in. I need to assign each camera to a specific object detection algorithm, since each one is mounted at a fixed position and tied to a different algorithm. But because they all look identical to the system, I have to manually change the video/image source in my code every time the cameras get plugged into different USB ports. Is there any way to give each camera a fixed ID that stays the same after the Orin restarts?

Thanks for the details. Before I dig into this, can you confirm the exact module you’re using? Is it this one: https://www.arducam.com/product/b0205-arducam-1080p-day-night-vision-usb-camera-module-for-computer-2mp-automatic-ir-cut-switching-all-day-image-usb2-0-webcam-board-with-ir-leds/ ?

Yes, that’s the one - the Arducam 1080p Day/Night Vision USB Camera Module (B0205). I have 3 of these modules connected to the Jetson Orin. All three report the same VID and PID. The three cameras are fixed at three different positions and each is associated with a different object detection algorithm, but I can’t bind a particular camera to a particular algorithm. Every time they’re plugged into different ports of the Orin, I have to manually change the source inside the code. What I’m hoping to do is set a fixed ID on each camera so that the ID remains the same after every Jetson Orin restart.

I checked into this model. Unfortunately the B0205 hardware/firmware does not support changing the device name or serial number. So there’s no modification path available for the device name and serial number on this camera module.

I see. Is there any solution other than changing the camera? Any workaround at all, maybe on the software side?

Unfortunately, we do not have a solution for this camera module. Since it doesn’t support modifying the device name or serial number, there’s no software or firmware workaround we can offer for this particular module. At this point, changing the camera to a model that supports unique serial numbers would be the remaining option.
