Multi Camera Adapter V2.2 not detecting 4x NOIR cameras on Raspberry Pi 4B

Hi everyone, I’m stuck trying to get my Raspberry Pi Multi Camera Adapter Module V2.2 working with a Raspberry Pi 4B and four Raspberry Pi NOIR Camera v2.1 modules. I’ve flashed the Arducam firmware that came with the adapter, but the Pi still doesn’t detect any of the cameras. Not sure if I’m missing a config step or if something’s wrong with the hardware. Here’s a photo of my current setup: https://cdn.arducam.com/forum/3b7d6127fe7c806cc0a6936732ad2ef7/WhatsApp%20Image%202023-03-12%20at%209.01.53%20PM.jpeg

Thanks for the details. From what you’re describing, the adapter is probably okay, but the Pi needs to be configured correctly before the multi-camera adapter module will show any cameras. The cameras won’t be detected until the right config changes are in place. I’d start by following the setup thread here: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=342058 — it goes through the multi-camera adapter configuration step by step. Give that a try and let me know what you see afterwards.

Quick question before I go further down that path. I’m currently running Buster OS on this Pi. Do I actually need to move to Bullseye to use the V2.2 adapter? I’d rather not reflash everything if I don’t have to.

Yes, you’ll need to switch to Bullseye OS. Buster is not a supported OS for the Raspberry Pi Multi Camera Adapter Module V2.2.

Hmm, okay. But I already have all my necessary code written for Buster. Is there really no way to keep using the adapter on Buster? Are there any example files that work specifically with Buster OS? I’d prefer to keep my existing setup if at all possible.

I understand the hesitation, but Buster support had to be dropped. When Raspberry Pi moved to the Bullseye system, Arducam had to stop development on Buster and focus everything on Bullseye. Bullseye ships with libcamera and picamera2, which is what you’d use for development now, and the example code is written against those. Your best path is to flash Bullseye and then port your existing Buster code over to libcamera and picamera2. It’s some extra work, but Bullseye is the supported route going forward.
