Hi everyone, I’m having trouble getting my Arducam IMX219 AutoFocus camera module (B0182) to show up in Motioneye. I’m on a Raspberry Pi 3 running Bullseye and Motioneye just doesn’t recognize the camera at all. I’ve been reading around and I’m starting to think I should just go back to Buster instead. Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to refocus the camera on Buster?
Welcome to the forum. Before jumping back to Buster, can you share a bit more about your setup? Which Bullseye image are you using (full, Lite, 32-bit or 64-bit), how is the camera connected, and which Motioneye install method did you use? Also, does the camera show up at all outside of Motioneye, for example with libcamera-hello --list-cameras?
My setup is the Arducam IMX219 AutoFocus camera module (B0182), Raspberry Pi 3, and Motioneye. I’ve tried both the latest Buster and Bullseye versions. On Bullseye, Motioneye won’t see the camera. I followed all the instructions I could find on the Arducam GitHub site but I still couldn’t get it recognized in Motioneye on Bullseye.
Thanks, that helps narrow it down. One thing worth noting is the B0182 autofocus module doesn’t use the same driver stack as a regular IMX219, so the setup steps matter a lot. When you followed the Arducam GitHub instructions on Bullseye, did you run their install script or manually enable the overlay/dtoverlay? Also, could you paste the output of something like dmesg | grep -i arducam or libcamera-hello --list-cameras? Any error messages would be useful.
I ran through whatever steps were listed on their GitHub page. Unfortunately I didn’t save any logs or output. Honestly, the main thing I’m trying to sort out right now is the Buster side of things. Since Motioneye isn’t working correctly on Bullseye for me, I’d rather just get the camera refocused and running on Buster. Do you have step-by-step instructions for that?
That’s where this gets tricky. I checked the Arducam documentation for the B0182 and the autofocus driver for that module is only made compatible with Bullseye OS. The autofocus feature is not usable on Buster, and from what I can see Arducam doesn’t have a plan to support Buster. So there aren’t going to be step-by-step refocus instructions for Buster, because the autofocus functionality simply won’t work there.
Wait, so the autofocus part won’t work on Buster at all? That’s disappointing. So my only option to get autofocus working is to stay on Bullseye and somehow get Motioneye to detect the camera there?
Right, that’s the current situation. The B0182 autofocus driver requires Bullseye OS - Buster autofocus is not supported and isn’t on their roadmap. So the realistic path forward is to stay on Bullseye and troubleshoot why Motioneye isn’t picking up the camera there. That usually comes down to the camera stack (libcamera vs the legacy stack) or the overlay not being enabled properly. If you can grab the output of libcamera-hello --list-cameras and dmesg | grep -i arducam from the Bullseye side, I’m happy to help dig into the detection issue with you.
