Hey everyone, I’m trying to set up external trigger on my Arducam Global Shutter Camera hooked up to an Nvidia Jetson board. I’ve been following the docs at the Jetson-specific page here:
But there’s no hardware wiring diagram on that page. I can see the software configuration steps, but I have no idea how to physically wire the trigger pins between the camera and the Jetson GPIO header. Anyone know the correct pin mapping? Don’t want to guess and fry something.
Good catch — you’re right, the wiring diagram is missing from the Jetson documentation page. That’s an oversight on our end.
The good news is that the Jetson GPIO header shares the exact same layout as the Raspberry Pi 40-pin header. For external trigger purposes, they are functionally identical. So you can use the same pin mapping.
Here’s what you need to wire up:
Camera XVS pin (the external trigger signal) → Jetson GPIO pin — use the same pin number as shown in the Raspberry Pi guide
Camera GND pin → any Jetson GND pin on the header
That’s it — just two connections. No level shifters or anything special needed.
Okay, that helps, but which specific GPIO pin on the Jetson side should I connect XVS to? The Raspberry Pi guide uses a specific pin number and I just want to be 100% sure I’m matching the right one before I start poking wires in.
I’ve sent you the exact pin reference diagram via private message so you can see the pin numbering clearly. But to confirm here for anyone else running into the same issue:
The GPIO pin numbers and physical header layout are identical between Raspberry Pi and Jetson. Whatever GPIO pin is specified in the Raspberry Pi external trigger guide — that’s the same physical pin on your Jetson header. The pin numbering scheme (BCM vs. physical pin) is the same, so just follow the Raspberry Pi instructions as if you were wiring to a Pi.
Once you’ve got the two wires connected, you don’t need separate Jetson-specific software instructions either. Head over to the Raspberry Pi software setup section here:
Alright, wired it up following the RPi pin mapping and ran through the software guide on the Raspberry Pi page. Trigger seems to be working now — I’m seeing the expected behavior in the demo script. Thanks for clearing that up.
So to summarize for anyone else who stumbles on this: the Jetson external trigger docs page is missing the wiring diagram, but the RPi page has it and it’s the same pinout. Just follow that and you’re good.
Glad it’s working. And yes, that’s the right summary. The root issue here is simply a documentation gap on the Jetson-specific page — the hardware wiring diagram should be there but isn’t. We’ll get that page updated.
For anyone finding this thread later: the Jetson and Raspberry Pi GPIO headers are functionally identical for external trigger purposes. Use the Raspberry Pi hardware wiring diagram and the Raspberry Pi software guide linked above — both apply directly to Jetson. Just two wires: XVS to the trigger GPIO pin and GND to GND. Nothing else needed.
