Hi everyone, I’m trying to build a small surveillance system using a Raspberry Pi Pico W and an Arducam mini 2MP camera, with Python. I can’t seem to find a Python library to interface with the camera. I haven’t written any code yet because I’m stuck right at the library step. Has anyone gotten this combo working?
Hi, Dion here from ArduCAM support. There’s a Python library in the ArduCAM PICO_SPI_CAM repository that should work with the mini 2MP on a Pico W. Check the Python folder here: PICO_SPI_CAM/Python at master · ArduCAM/PICO_SPI_CAM · GitHub. I’d suggest starting with the examples in that folder and seeing if you can get an image captured.
Thanks, that Python link is helpful. Do you also have a C++ version of the same library? I might move the project over to C++ later, so I’d like to use the camera that way too if possible.
Unfortunately ArduCAM doesn’t provide a C++ library for the mini 2MP / PICO SPI CAM. The only official library for this camera on the Pico is the Python one I linked earlier. There’s no C++ equivalent in that repository.
Got it. What about using the camera with an Arduino in C++ instead? Does an Arduino C++ library exist for the Arducam mini 2MP? I searched around but couldn’t find one.
To confirm, ArduCAM doesn’t have an Arduino C++ library for the mini 2MP either. For this camera, the supported route is the Python library in the PICO_SPI_CAM repository (PICO_SPI_CAM/Python at master · ArduCAM/PICO_SPI_CAM · GitHub). There isn’t an Arduino/C++ library available for it at this time, so if you need C++ or Arduino support, that’s currently a limitation.
