Hi everyone, I’m stuck with an Arducam IMX462 (B0444) on a Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB running Debian bookworm. I followed the Pivariety quick start guide, but libcamera just won’t take a picture. The error I keep seeing is:
WARN CameraSensorProperties camera_sensor_properties.cpp:305 No static properties available for ‘arducam-pivariety’
ERROR Camera camera.cpp:1185 Can’t configure camera with invalid configuration
The camera seems to be detected, but it never actually captures anything. Any idea what’s going on?
Thanks for the details. That ‘No static properties’ warning together with the ‘invalid configuration’ error usually means libcamera doesn’t have the sensor info it needs, so something in the camera/overlay setup is off. Could you run a few commands and paste the output here?
libcamera-still --list-cameras
dmesg | grep -E “imx477|imx219|arducam”
ls /dev/video0
Also paste your /boot/firmware/config.txt and let me know what you’ve already tried.
So far I’ve reinstalled everything twice following the Arducam troubleshooting guide and other posts I found, enabled I2C, and installed the special libcamera build. Still the same error.
Thanks, that’s very helpful. The good news is your camera is being enumerated correctly — it shows up as arducam-pivariety, dmesg reports firmware version 0x10003, and /dev/video0 is there. The problem is that libcamera has no static properties for ‘arducam-pivariety’, which is why it ends with ‘Can’t configure camera with invalid configuration’. This points to the camera module firmware/config needing an update.
There’s a thread covering this exact situation on bookworm — follow the update steps there:
After the firmware update this should go away.
If it still doesn’t work after that, please grab a bug report so I can see the full state of the system:
Okay, I followed the thread and downloaded the zip it points to, but now I’m confused. The zip contains two folders, and both Readmes say the update has to be run on a Jetson Nano — but I’m on a Raspberry Pi. The Readme also warns to check the sensor type carefully because you can damage the module, and the supported sensors look like IMX230/298. My B0444 has an IMX462, so that doesn’t seem right at all.
Also, the thread mentions the update behaves differently on different Pi versions. I’ve now got the camera on a Raspberry Pi 5 running bookworm — what’s the correct command for that?
Good catch — that package is Jetson-specific and it’s meant for different sensors (IMX230/298), so it’s not the right path for your B0444/IMX462. Ignore that zip.
For the Raspberry Pi, you can update the camera firmware directly from the Pi itself — no Jetson needed. Connect the camera to the cam1 slot on the Pi 5 and follow this guide:
To sum up where we are: the camera is detected fine (arducam-pivariety, firmware 0x10003, /dev/video0 present), but libcamera can’t configure it because the static sensor properties are missing. Updating the module firmware from the Pi 5 (cam1 slot) is the current fix — give that a try and let us know if the ‘invalid configuration’ error clears.
