Hey all, I’m trying to get my Jetvariety CSI cameras working on a Jetson AGX Orin dev kit with JetPack 5.x, but the .deb kernel driver packages from the Jetvariety GitHub repo don’t seem to be compatible. When I try to install them, it looks like they were built for an older kernel/L4T version. Has anyone managed to get these cameras working on the Orin platform, or is there an updated driver package somewhere? I’ve been going in circles on this.
Welcome to the forum! That sounds frustrating. Could you share a bit more about your setup so we can narrow things down? Specifically:
- Which exact Jetson module are you using?
- What version of JetPack / L4T are you running? (You can check with
cat /etc/nv_tegra_release) - Which Jetvariety camera models are you using?
That’ll help figure out what’s going on.
Sure thing. Here’s what I’m working with:
- Jetson AGX Orin developer kit
- JetPack 5.x — L4T 35.1.0
- Jetvariety CSI cameras (the ones from the standard Jetvariety kit)
The driver repo I’ve been using is the main Jetvariety GitHub repo. The .deb files in there seem to reference kernel modules for L4T 32.x / JetPack 4.x, which obviously doesn’t match the Orin’s 5.x stack.
Thanks for the details — that confirms the issue. The driver packages that were previously available in the Jetvariety repo were built specifically for JetPack 4.x (L4T 32.x). They are not compatible with JetPack 5.x running on the Jetson AGX Orin, which is why you’re hitting this wall. The kernel ABI and module layout changed significantly between those L4T generations.
The good news is that Arducam (who now handles the Jetvariety camera line) has released a dedicated driver package built specifically for the AGX Orin platform with JetPack 5.x. It’s tagged as v0.0.1-agx-orin and targets the t234 SoC.
Oh that’s great to hear. I didn’t realize Arducam had taken over the driver side of things. Where can I find the right package? And is the install process different from the old Jetvariety steps?
Here’s what you need:

Installation guide:

The install process follows the same general pattern as before — download the .deb and install it with dpkg -i, then reboot. The guide linked above walks through it step by step.
One thing worth noting: the package filename encodes a lot of useful info. The t234-agx-orin part tells you it’s for the Orin’s t234 platform, 5.10.192-tegra is the kernel version it was built against, and 35.5.0 is the target L4T release. Just a heads-up that the package was built against L4T 35.5.0 — you mentioned you’re on 35.1.0, so you may want to consider updating your JetPack/L4T to 35.5.0 to match the driver’s expected kernel version (5.10.192-tegra). Let us know how it goes!
