I’m trying to get an Arducam AR0234 global shutter camera working on a Jetson Orin Nano with JetPack 5.1.1 (kernel package tegra-35.3.1). The camera has never worked since I got it. I followed the quick start guide and ran:
./install_full.sh -m arducam
but it doesn’t actually install the AR0234 drivers. The board is detected as “Orin Nano 4GB for DSBOARD-ORNXS”. The docs say tegra-35.3.1 is supported, so I’m not sure what’s going wrong.
Can you run the installer again and paste the terminal output? The part after the .deb download is the important bit — the post-install step is where it usually breaks.
./install_full.sh -m arducam
...

Then it exits:

Errors were encountered while processing:
arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel
Unknown error, please send the error message to Arducam support.
That traceback is the key. The package downloads and unpacks fine, then the post-install script runs /opt/arducam/jetson-io/config-by-hardware.py. That script tries to create a Board() object and calls _board_get_dtb() in /opt/arducam/jetson-io/Jetson/board.py, but it can’t find a matching device tree blob for “Orin Nano 4GB for DSBOARD-ORNXS”. That raises RuntimeError, the post-install script exits with status 255, and dpkg marks the package as failed. The “unknown error while installing dtoverlays” message is just the installer catching that failure.
Which carrier board is this? Can you post a picture of the board and the camera connection?
Attached a photo of the board. I’ve also tried the same camera on a separate Orin NX machine and got the same error, so it doesn’t seem specific to one unit. If it helps, I can arrange temporary remote access — I don’t want to post access details publicly, but I can send them in a private message if you’d like.
Thanks, I checked the photo. That looks like a third-party carrier board (DSBOARD-ORNXS). With a third-party carrier board, Arducam can’t confirm whether the problem is the camera or the hardware platform — some Arducam cameras are not compatible with third-party boards. Can you test the camera on the official NVIDIA development kit? That will tell us whether the camera itself is working. If it still fails on the official dev kit, let us know and we’ll continue.
The driver installation problem is still there. The documentation says it should work with tegra-35.3.1, but the installer won’t finish, so the AR0234 drivers never get set up. These are production edge devices already deployed with customers, not development kits, so I can’t swap them out for an official dev kit. I attached another picture of the setup.
I hear you, but from the board details and the failing DTB lookup, this is a compatibility issue with the third-party carrier board rather than a defect in the camera or the driver package. The AR0234 driver is not compatible with the DSBOARD-ORNXS, and that incompatibility is noted on the product page. The tegra-35.3.1/JetPack 5.1.1 support applies to supported carrier boards — on your board the installer can’t find a matching DTB, so it fails regardless of the kernel version.
Current conclusion: test the camera on the official dev kit to confirm the camera itself works. On the DSBOARD-ORNXS third-party carrier, the Arducam AR0234 driver is not supported, which is why the install is failing.
