Install_full.sh fails with syntax error and missing deb package on Jetson Orin Nano r36.2.0

Hi, I’m trying to run install_full.sh from the V3Link camera quick start guide on a Jetson Orin Nano devkit and it keeps failing. It downloads a couple of files, then dies with:

./install_full.sh: line 111: 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859: syntax error: invalid arithmetic operator (error token is “.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859”)

Then it says ‘Cannot find the corresponding deb package’.

Environment: Jetson Orin Nano devkit, I thought r36.2.0, product B0254. Kernel version shows 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859, Jetson type: NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit.

Guide I’m following: https://docs.arducam.com/V3Link-Camera-Solution/V3Link-Camera-Solution-for-NVIDIA-Platform/Quick-Start-Guide/

Any idea what’s wrong?

Thanks for the details. The line 111 error usually means the script is choking while parsing the kernel version. Can you paste the full terminal output from the script? Also, since your note says r36.2.0 but the kernel string contains 36.4.0, could you run:

sudo apt-cache show nvidia-jetpack

and post the version it reports? I want to confirm which JetPack is actually installed before we go further.

Here’s the full output:

Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to Arducam support
Kernel version: 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859

And apt-cache show nvidia-jetpack confirms it’s actually 36.4.0, so I was wrong about r36.2.0.

Thanks, that confirms it. The script is not compatible with JetPack 36.4.0 on the Orin Nano yet. It successfully pulled modules.txt and imx477_v3link_links.txt from the MIPI_Camera v0.0.3 release, but then at line 111 it tries to evaluate the kernel version string as an arithmetic expression. Since 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859 isn’t a valid numeric expression, bash throws:

./install_full.sh: line 111: 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859: syntax error: invalid arithmetic operator (error token is “.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859”)

Because the script can’t map that kernel version to a supported package, it falls through to ‘Cannot find the corresponding deb package.’ The line 19 null byte warning is a separate command-substitution quirk, but it’s not what’s stopping the install.

OK, so what are my options? Is there a 36.4.0 package I’m missing, or do I need to reflash to a different JetPack version?

Right now there’s no supported package for JetPack 36.4.0 on the Orin Nano. The officially supported JetPack versions are listed here:

https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Introduction-to-Arducam-Jetson-Cameras/

So you have two options: either downgrade to one of the supported JetPack versions and rerun install_full.sh, or wait for 36.4.0 support to be released, which should be about two weeks. To confirm what you’re currently on:

sudo apt-cache show nvidia-jetpack

If you want, I can update this thread when the 36.4.0 package is available.

Got it. I’d rather wait for the 36.4.0 support than downgrade, so I’ll hold off. Please let me know if it lands earlier than two weeks.

Will do. To sum up for anyone else hitting the same thing: install_full.sh fails on JetPack 36.4.0 for the Jetson Orin Nano because it tries to parse 5.15.148-tegra-36.4.0-20240912212859 as an arithmetic expression and then can’t find a matching deb package. The current workaround is to use a supported JetPack version from the docs above, or wait for the 36.4.0 package to be released. I’ll post back here once the update is out.
