IMX477 driver won't install on Jetson Orin Nano kernel 5.10.120

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get the Arducam IMX477 module working on my Jetson Orin Nano and the driver install keeps failing. The install script errors out saying there’s no driver version available for kernel 5.10.120. I’ve attached a screenshot of what I’m seeing:

Anyone else run into this? Not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if my kernel just isn’t supported.

Thanks for the screenshot. That error usually points to a version mismatch rather than something you did wrong. Could you share a bit more about your environment? Specifically, which JetPack/L4T version is on the device? Kernel 5.10.120 alone doesn’t tell me the full story.

Sure. It’s a Jetson Orin Nano, and uname -r gives 5.10.120. To be honest I’m not entirely sure which L4T version I’m on — is there an easy way to check that?

Yes, run this on the device:

cat /etc/nv_tegra_release

That will show the L4T release and revision. My guess based on kernel 5.10.120 is that you’re on L4T 35.4.1, but let’s confirm.

Okay here’s what it shows:

# R35 (release), REVISION: 4.1

So I’m guessing that means L4T 35.4.1?

That confirms it. You’re on L4T 35.4.1, and that’s the root of the problem. The Arducam IMX477 driver for the Jetson Orin Nano currently only supports L4T 35.3.1. There’s no driver package published yet for the 5.10.120 kernel that ships with 35.4.1, so the install script has nothing to match against and fails.

Here’s what I saw in your screenshot after reviewing it:

The install is failing at the driver selection step because no compatible version exists for your kernel. It’s not a corrupted download or a permissions issue — it’s a JetPack/L4T version mismatch.

To get the driver installed, you’ll need to reflash the device to a supported L4T version, which right now is L4T 35.3.1. The full list of supported versions is here:

https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Introduction-to-Arducam-Jetson-Cameras/

Once you’re on 35.3.1, the install script should find the correct driver package for that kernel and complete normally.

Got it, thanks. So there’s really no way around it without reflashing? Just want to double-check before I wipe the device and set everything back up.

Correct — L4T 35.4.1 isn’t supported for this camera module yet, so there’s no driver to install on that kernel. Reflashing to L4T 35.3.1 is required before the IMX477 driver can be installed. After the reflash, run the install again and it should pick up the right kernel version automatically. Let me know how it goes once you’ve reflashed.
