Hi, I’m having trouble getting my IMX 477 camera to show up at all. It’s just not detected. I’ve tried installing it on a Jetson Nano running JetPack 4.6 and also on a Raspberry Pi 4, but neither one sees the camera. On the Nano I followed the install steps but the camera never appears. Are there drivers I should be using for JetPack 4.6? I’ve attached a couple of photos of my setups.
Thanks for the details. A couple of things here. The Arducam camera driver is not compatible with JetPack 32.7.4 (the version shipped with JetPack 4.6.x). To use the IMX 477 on JetPack 32.7.4 you need to enable the Jetson native imx477 driver instead. On the Raspberry Pi side, the imx477 needs to be enabled in the config file - it usually isn’t by default. Take a look at this guide for the Jetson IO part: Jetson-io - Arducam Wiki
I looked at that Jetson IO guide, but when I open the tool there’s no option listed for the IMX 477 camera driver. What should I try next?
Let’s get the Pi sorted first since that’s quicker to test. Open the config file with: sudo nano /boot/config.txt. Under the [all] section at the bottom, add: dtoverlay=imx477. Save, then reboot. The imx477 camera needs that overlay entry to be recognized by the Pi.
On the Jetson Nano side I still can’t get the drivers installed at all. I followed the link you sent but it’s failing. I’m on JetPack 32.6.1, which I thought needed JetPack 4.6. I’ve attached the console output from the install. Is there a suitable .img with JetPack 4.6 that I can just flash?
Also, I rebooted the Pi after adding dtoverlay=imx477, but the camera option still doesn’t show up. Could the camera module itself be broken?
Let’s get some more data before assuming the camera is dead. Can you generate a bug report? Reboot the device, then run: wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report, then chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report, then ./arducam-camera-bug-report. It’ll create arducam-bug-report.txt in the current directory. Send that file to me via private message so we can look at the state of the camera and drivers.
One more thing - are you using the official Jetson Nano carrier board? The Arducam camera driver doesn’t play well with third-party carrier boards. Could you also send pictures of the back and front of your Nano via private message so we can verify?
Sure, I’ll take pictures of the Nano (front and back) and send them over.
I think I found the issue. You were following the wrong documentation for the imx477 install on the Jetson Nano. Use the Native Camera Quick-Start Guide instead, specifically the 12MP imx477 camera section: https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Native-Camera/Quick-Start-Guide/#12mp-imx477-camera. Follow that procedure and let me know how it goes.
That did it - the camera is working now. For anyone else hitting this, this video also helped me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fAbLH_gFag. Thanks for the help!
