Hi everyone, I’m stuck getting my Arducam IMX477 (B024001) detected on a Raspberry Pi 4B. Whenever I run libcamera or rpicam commands I just get ‘no camera has been detected’. I’ve already added dtoverlay=imx477 to /boot/firmware/config.txt but the camera still doesn’t show up. I was following the Arducam docs (12MP IMX477 - Arducam Wiki) and the Raspberry Pi camera software getting started guide, but no luck so far. Any ideas?
Thanks for the details. Just to confirm: Pi 4B, IMX477 B024001, dtoverlay=imx477 already present in /boot/firmware/config.txt, and libcamera/rpicam still reports ‘no camera has been detected’. That’s odd since the overlay should normally get it recognized, so let’s gather more diagnostic info. Could you generate the Arducam bug report so I can see what the system is seeing? Here are the steps:
- Reboot the device.
- Download the bug report tool:
wget -O arducam-camera-bug-report https://github.com/ketai-dhr/arducam-camera-bug-report/releases/download/tools/arducam-camera-bug-report - Make it executable:
chmod +x ./arducam-camera-bug-report - Run it:
./arducam-camera-bug-report
That creates an ‘arducam-bug-report.txt’ file in the current directory. Please send that file to me via private message so I can dig into it.
Okay, I went through your steps… and for some reason that worked and my camera is working well? I don’t fully understand why, but after rebooting and running that script it got detected.
Glad it’s working! The tool runs through a bunch of environment checks and can trigger a re-probe of the camera, so a clean reboot plus running the script is sometimes all it takes to sort out the detection. So to summarize: the camera wasn’t being detected initially, and after the reboot and running the provided Arducam bug report tool/script the recognition issue went away.
Yeah, I ran the test script you gave me and the camera got recognized. libcamera sees it now.
Perfect, that confirms it. Wrapping up: the IMX477 wasn’t being detected despite dtoverlay=imx477 being present, and running the support test script (the arducam-camera-bug-report tool) after a reboot resolved the detection problem. If it drops off again after another power cycle, run the script once more and we can take a closer look at the generated bug report.
