IMX477 Arducam camera not working on Oring AGX Orin developer kit

Hi everyone, I’m stuck trying to get an Arducam IMX477 camera working on an Oring AGX developer kit (Jetson Orin). I ran the installer but it couldn’t find my developer kit at all. Does anyone know if the Arducam IMX477 is actually supported for the Orin? Starting to think I’m doing something fundamentally wrong.

Hi there. Could you share your environment details first? Specifically:

  • kernel version (uname -r)
  • output of cat /etc/nv_tegra_release
  • the exact installer command you ran
That’ll help narrow down why it’s not finding your board.

Sure, here are the specs:
Image-0M4J11.png

Kernel version: 4.9.299-tegra-32.7.3-20221122092958
Jetson type shows as UNKNOWN.

cat /etc/nv_tegra_release gives:

R32 (release), REVISION: 7.3, GCID: 31982016, BOARD: t186ref, EABI: aarch64, DATE: Tue Nov 22 17:32:54 UTC 2022

For background I was previously on a TX2 NX (Model P3636 180-13636-DAAA-A03).

Thanks. Quick note - BOARD: t186ref with that 4.9.299 kernel is actually TX2-family, not AGX Orin (Orin uses L4T R35 / 5.10.x). That mismatch might be why the installer reports Jetson type: UNKNOWN. We haven’t validated compatibility with TX boards, so if you’re actually on a TX2 you might want to check the Nvidia official imx477 driver route instead. Reference doc: Jetson-io - Arducam Wiki

But first, can you run the installer and paste the full output? I want to see the exact failure.

Okay here’s what I ran:
./install_full.sh -m imx477

Cannot find the corresponding deb package, please send the following information to [email protected]
Kernel version: 4.9.299-tegra-32.7.3-20221122092958
Jetson type: UNKNOWN

Right, that ‘Cannot find the corresponding deb package’ line means the installer couldn’t find a matching prebuilt driver deb for your kernel/board combination, so it bails out before doing anything. Since it says Jetson type: UNKNOWN, it never managed to identify the platform.

Since I’m on the 4.9.299 kernel I tried to work around it by grabbing the t210 deb directly:
wget https://github.com/ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera/releases/download/v0.0.1/arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel-t210-4.9.299-tegra-32.7.3-20230111085049_arm64_imx477.deb
sudo apt install ./arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel-t210-4.9.299-tegra-32.7.3-20230111085049_arm64_imx477.deb

But that fails with:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
arducam-nvidia-l4t-kernel : Depends: nvidia-l4t-kernel (= 4.9.299-tegra-32.7.3-20221122092935) but 4.9.299-tegra-32.7.3-20221122092958 is to be installed

That dependency error is a build mismatch - the deb was built against nvidia-l4t-kernel …92935, but your system has …92958, so apt refuses to install it.

That said, stepping back: you mentioned this is an AGX Orin. The AGX Orin doesn’t need an extra Arducam camera driver installed at all. The whole installer path isn’t applicable to the AGX Orin - that’s the actual root cause. For the AGX Orin, only Jetson-io configuration is needed, not a separate camera driver.

Ah, that explains a lot. So I should skip the installer entirely then? How do I configure the camera on the AGX Orin?

Correct - skip the Arducam driver installer on the AGX Orin. Instead, run the Jetson-io configuration tool:

sudo /opt/nvidia/jetson-io/jetson-io.py

The steps are documented here:
https://docs.arducam.com/Nvidia-Jetson-Camera/Application-note/Jetson-io/

One caveat though: we can’t guarantee your specific IMX477 camera will work well with the AGX Orin, since compatibility isn’t validated on our end. Configure Jetson-io and test, but there’s no guarantee.
